Have I been tuning saws wrong

I tune my trimmer to just barely 4-stroke at WOT with full line on the head. I have no idea if this is correct. It will 4 stroke more as the line wears shorter.

Have I been tuning saws wrong

I like to set the idle really high, that way my right index finger doesn't get tired squeezing the throttle.

Have I been tuning saws wrong

The 385 has been takin a lickin and kept on tickin. The 288 died, then pulled a Lazarus! Admittedly, this is smoky-ass rich, but in my defense, I hadn't tuned it after the top-end rebuild

Have I been tuning saws wrong

I tune the H to 4 stroke when I lift pressure in a cut, then I tune the L so that I like how it revs, then set the idle to where I want it.

    281xp project

I would hold out for good used OEM, a non-decomp kolbenschmidt if you can find one. This will sound snobbish, but a 288 is too special a saw to stick a chicom top end on.

    394xp compression question

You have to put them on youtube first. Here's how a 394 should sound in the cut and letting off. 394's like to be a little rich

    Husqvarna 570 Chainsaw

You can find decent 385's and 288's for around 400 if you look around.

It is with great sadness that I report.......

Well, it's back up and running. Doesn't seem any worse for wear. For some reason, I cannot upload to youtube. Thanks for all u'r thoughts and prayers. They have helped me greatly during this time of distress.

The first one/ cause of addiction

I really hated chainsaws. They were a necessary evil to get work done. I went thru various box store cheapo's, which would last a season, then die (I was not, and am still not ChrisPA). Then I bought some more land, and bought a husky 359. That was the first time I had a saw that would throw...

    Need a string trimmer

I've had great luck with my 326. After a mm (ugly one), it's fast and strong. Pull the limiter and it's super-easy to tune. I'm not particularly nice to my equipment, and we're prolly 6 years in with no maintenance

    Where to you find saws?

    My garage

    Almost died

I wouldn't put too much stock in what the primary doc says. Barring an unforeseen infection, I'll bet you'll heal up fine

    Bar oil necessary?

WTF is bar oil? Do you have to oil the bar every time you use it??? I just put 2 stroke oil in the "oil" reservoir and gasoline in the fuel reservoir. I set the little screw on the underside of the clutch cover to mix the two at a decent ratio.

    Service Pro bar oil

I use extra-virgin olive oil. Smells nice, and helps lower my cholesterol.
