    MS 034 question

I have an 034 that I bought new back in 1993. It's a great firewood saw....I usually run a 20" bar. I have quite a bit of mileage on mine and still runs like a champ.

    Firewood- favorite saw

I have been running my MS460 quite a bit lately for firewood cutting. Lots of big white oak has presented itself recently.

Stihl 066 Magnum got temperamental today

I never realized there were non-magnum 066 saws. I thought the magnum name was just a Stihl trademark.

Stihl 066 Magnum got temperamental today

+1. Replace plug first. A buddy of mine had similar symptoms and a new plug did the trick.

Animal eating my fuel cans!! WTH!!

I was thinking the same thing about the ethanol but just recently I had a squirrel eat two holes in a plastic can that I had 100 LL AV Gas in. There is no ethanol in av gas. Now I'm wondering if they are just thirsty. Another observation.....it only happens when it is real hot outside.

    What are your firewood saws?

Using 034 for most firewood work. I have an MS460 for the big rounds.

034 to 036 - What plastic top mods required?

I contemplated upgrading my 034 to an 036 on more than one occasion. I ultimately ended up buying another saw....ms460. My 034 is a great saw and the small gain I would get changing out the cylinder and piston kept me from going down that path. Now if your 034 is tired and the compression is...

    Moisture Meter Readings

I burn mostly red oak on a two year cycle here in central Jersey. It usually gets down to 20% or less (measured in the middle of the split) in two years. If I had a large enough supply and could get ahead, three years would be ideal. My splits are 20" which doesn't help matters.

    ive had enough

I have about 2 or 3 good fires left in the on deck rack. After it's consumed I'm done.

Do any stoves last longer than 24 hours on a fill?

If longer burn time is a major factor in your stove purchase decision, pick the larger stove within reason. You can realize longer burn times with the larger firebox.

Do any stoves last longer than 24 hours on a fill?

A larger fire box, as compared to a smaller one, will in fact give a longer burn time at a given BTU/hr rate of heat output. It's pretty simple.....a given species of wood will have a certain number of BTU's/ volume. A larger fire box will hold more volume and therefor more total BTU's of...

Do any stoves last longer than 24 hours on a fill?

One thing that works for me is to use my larger splits of Oak or Hickory for overnight burns. I can't speak to the efficiency and how it relates to rate of burn, burn temps, etc. but I can tell you for my application, with a Jotul Oslo, if I load it at 11:00 PM before bed, the stove temp on the...

    Forgetting to Close it Down....

That's a good question. I would think when you hit 900 deg F. you are starting to get close. Dull cherry red starts at about 1100 deg F. Might also depend on where you proble the pipe to some extent.

    Forgetting to Close it Down....

Been thinking about this problem since Chris-Pa posted. Did some searches on flee bay and found a couple of interesting temp sensors with alarm relay outputs. One in particular I found had a K-type thermocouple with a stainless housing for the sensor element. The high side of the temperature...
