Top down fires are a snap if your wood is properly seasoned.

    Craigslist find- Worth it?

Ahh man, I got screwed once already this year with a load of Bass. Some lawn and garden guy was calling around looking for someone to dump a load of wood off- he said one of his friends cut the tree down for his customer and it was up to him to get rid of it. Said he didn't know what kind of...

    Craigslist find- Worth it?

The person replied and said they are not sure what type of tree it is- but think its walnut. The measured about 35" across at its widest point. ....Doesn't look that big in the picture, does it? I wonder if they measured circumference instead of diameter-

    Craigslist find- Worth it?

.........and again, I assumed something- He didn't specify only the fallen tree. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I will ask him the details to be sure.

    Craigslist find- Worth it?

You know- I was so darn worked up over finding a tree that I completely forgot to ask him what kind it is. If you hadn't asked me that I would have thought it was maple.... I don't 'know why- just had that in my mind for some reason. I've replied again and asked if he could measure the...

    Craigslist find- Worth it?

http://fortwayne.craigslist.org/zip/842107064.html It would cost me about $50 in gas for the # of trips I would need to take in my truck. I've never tried to buck a whole length fallen tree before- most of the stuff I scavenge is already cut to 4 feet or less. I would imagine my chain...

To burn or not to burn ?

Burn that stuff- but don't be surprised if it takes another year or 2 before its ready. 3 years ago I got a hold of 2 elm trees that had been dead for one year, and I just burned it last winter. It took A LONG TIME to dry after splitting. I had even removed all the bark. Burned great...

    Chimney Liner Top Plate Question

I have a chimney just like yours, and what I did was add another 12" tile to the top of the fireplace side, then mounted the liner cap on top of that. The bag of mortar and a 12" tile cost me about $15.00 and was an easy solution.

Anyone have firewood available in Fort Wayne?

Split and dry and ready to buy? Ash that could be split thin to dry fast... Anything that could be used this season? Free, not free- split, not split- just anything that might be of use this winter. I know, this is a desperate plea but here is my excuse for not being prepared. I was...

    Comparison of Chain Grinders

Northern Tool Grinder Has anyone tried one of these? I visit northerntool.com pretty frequently, and just noticed this a few days ago. http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200327451_200327451 Is this similar to any grinder that might just have a different...

    More power from MS280

Well, My name is Aaron, and I'm a homeowner user. I bought my first saw last winter, and was pretty chicken sh!t about it- so I got a smaller saw with some extra safety features, like the secondary quick stop brake mounted on the rear handle. I like the saw, and I'm becoming familiar with how...

I feel an arm-ache coming on (the 031 way)

Be Careful First off, be careful how much you run it off carb spray. It does not lubricate like the gas/oil mix. How is the new ignition you installed timed? Might be firing at the wrong time. Pretty tough to say though- could be a carb kit. Can you flood it when trying to start it? If...

    What does it cost???

Total Bs That article is complete crap. First off, who burns 21 pounds of seasoned wood per hour. Dry wood is much lighter than wet wood, and I'd be lucky to fit 21 pounds of it in my Napoleon insert at once, let alone do it each hour. Last November, we had our wood burning insert installed...

    MS280 sprocket question?

    Opinions on fireplace insert

Quadrafire 2700 You might want to check out the quadrafire 2700. it is only 17 1/16" deep, and might work a little better, or be a little cheaper than the one you are currently looking at. Good luck finding one you like! I installed an insert last novermber and it works great. It will be a...
