    Need Subs!

If was an actual decent rate I'd make the trip on down there for a few weeks. But after lodging, taxes and 20% for work comp. that isn't even close to worth the ride down.

I hate climbing trees covered in vines

There will be a day when you look back at it and wish that every tree with vines you did was like that. It can be a whole lot worse. After all the ones I have done only 2 kinds I hope to never have to repeat. One being a sycamore covered in english ivy so bad it stuck out 2-3 feet from the trunk...

Pros and cons of hiring employees

Yea is paid through an insurance company. I had made a number calls for quotes but all where pretty much the same just based on what the industry rate is and being it was a first year policy with no history to go on. Using New Jersey Manufactures at the moment but was told that there was a...

Pros and cons of hiring employees

Paying in full was the same for me in jersey. Paid what I thought was the full amount at first they recalculated based on wages and wanted another 2 grand or they where dropping me even after 1 month. Bunch of crap but not like I had an other option. Was either get and pay the WC or lose the...

Have you seen one of these?

I wouldn't worry about the caritool breaking even though it is plastic. Hell I'll hang but 660 on a piece of throwline which is how my brass snap is connected to my saddle and never think twice about it. More so the problem I had with those caritools is the actual gate breaking. Never had the...

Pros and cons of hiring employees

Would seem like a big pain to sit there and figure out hours for both tree and ground work. Guess it would really add up with a bunch of guys depending on ur WC rate. But as a sub. and only having to worry about carrying my own and my rate is only 17-18% it wouldn't be worth it for those few...

Have you seen one of these?

It's called a ladder hook and most major suppliers carry them. In that picture it is just fixed to the back of the saddle. Buddy of mine used one unfixed and worked pretty well but his was made of steel and I couldn't see it worth the weight. Point of it being at the mid point on the saddle is...

How are other tree companies fairing in other states

Yea been just as slow in Jersey for me as well. Have had 3 days of sub work since christmas and 1 estimate that I have yet to hear back from. Guess I picked the wrong year to take off from doing snow removal. But I am expecting to at least get back at in within the next week even if just 2-3days...

    footlocking

Just wondering how many of those that say they find it best or is there preference has actually tried a wide variety of ascent methods? Which brings me to another point of actually happened today and a few other times. Obviously you can't FL with spikes on but you can wear ropewalking systems...

cutting poisen ivy /oak/sumak(sp) at the base of tree,

Yea I usually don't have the chance to cut it and let it be before starting the job. Worst being last year on a land clearing job. Had to strip out and top a side of a hill before starting work on the top of the hill. Most of the locust had PI going from bottom to at least 50-60' up it. Most...

cutting poisen ivy /oak/sumak(sp) at the base of tree,

Yea I am luck as well and just never get the stuff no matter how thick it gets. Only thing that happens to me is when the sap drips onto my skin it will actually burn into your skin. Had a spot on my neck the size of a soda can last year and currently have a small spot from it on my tricep...

    Poison Ivy?

It's the only rope I have used to climb on since it has come out. I love the stuff just based on the fact of it's 1.8% elongation. I use a static line on bigger trees for access but it's nice have a rope with little stretch for SRT or DdRT footlocking. I personally haven't noticed any difference...

    Scotch Plains, NJ. Near Newark.

Both Tamke and Bartlet work that area of jersey.

    footlocking

Is one thing some of you may be forgetting. You aren't getting paid just to ascend the tree and come down. The 5min it takes to set-up and break down rope-walking/SRT sytem or a wraptor can easily be shaved off. All the extra energy you save you can spend actually doing the work that you are...

    footlocking

I'm finding it more and more each has it's place. Also deals more with the height of trees you tend to climb. I use to know nothing but footlocking. But footlocking multiple 90' climbs per day can get pretty rough no matter how good you are at it. And not too uncommon to get into things 120' and...

    new toy!!

Bailey's carries them and are a site sponsor. If looking for something more custom check down in the chain saw section to find someone to port one out for you if don't know how or are unable to yourself. And yea you need to clean your air filter more often or replace it. Been using the same...

    new toy!!

Yea that is about what I paid for mine as well. And yeah definitly upgrade to a dual port muffler once you have the saw broken in and even throw on an oversided clutch cover. Also don't forget to richen the full mix up slightly afterwards. If u love it stock it will blow your mind then.

    What gear for new climber

Call up a distributor that your interested in purchasing from and explain that you are interested in buying a saddle but want to try it out. I did this a couple of years ago and companies where more then welcome to help me. Only important thing to remember is to treat the saddle like glass and...

    Any work in Charleston, SC?

I am considering to relocate down that way, a few miles out of downtown historic district. This wouldn't be til the fall considering I don't want to leave all the guys I sub for high and dry this time or year. Only reason I am looking so early is that I am taking a trip down there over the July...
