    3"8" chain on a Stihl 261

I run 20" bars with 3/8" RSC on both my ported 026 PRO's. Birch, Elm, Russian Olive, White Oak, a few fir trees. They pull like scalded dogs through anything I put them in. :msp_w00t:

    Stihl 038 Gamble/build?

I put a Chinese cylinder on my 038. It made it through 6 or 7 tanks of fuel, if that, and started flaking off the CHROME lining. Then it lost a bunch of power, as you can imagine. I put a good used Stihl cylinder on it and Meteor piston with caber rings. I can't speak for all the Chinese...

    First Porting Attempt MS 260

I have a 4" long 1/4" carbide burr that I use in a drill to keep it slow for first material removal. I haven't ported anywhere near as many saws as Mastermind or the others who do it for a living, but my first one was a Stihl 038 super that I converted to a Magnum and ported the new cylinder...

    Stihl MS-170 vs MS-180 C

I don't use anything smaller than my 026. It runs a 20" bar and 3/8" full chisel chain. It does all my small stuff just fine and has enough torque to get some bigger stuff done without stopping and grabbing another saw. I ran the heck out of my MS660 for a while until I got my MS440. Now the...

    1st Chainsaw - Stihl 026

Agreed. My first 026 was a basket case that fell out of a truck going down the highway. I replaced all the broken and missing parts and put it back together stock to see if I wanted to keep it. It was fine with the original carburetor before porting but was definitely lean after porting. A...

    1st Chainsaw - Stihl 026

New saw rep! 026 is one of my favorites. I have two now and both are ported. They were just fine before I messed with them. Now they are AWESOME! The PRO version has a decomp valve which is not needed at all and an adjustable high output oiler. I put a plug in place of the...

    Stihl 038 Gamble/build?

Crank seals are a piece of cake on an 038. If you don't do them now, you will be doing them later and maybe another piston. :angry2: Keep in mind, ALL the rubber parts on the saw are at the same level of deterioration. Fuel line, impulse line, intake boot, crank seals, and carb kit add...

    a couple of 028 questions .

The clutch springs on my 028 are really soft and the chain doesn't want to stop. In my case, they are just old and need to be replaced.

    What's On Your Bench? 2/15/13

I wouldn't mind a little taxidermy work. ALL of the drive links are junk on the 455 chain. Cutters are good. I was messin with the chain adjuster and the threads are stripped. I am guessing the bar nuts didn't get enough torque at some point and put a huge load on the tiny threads of the...

    What's On Your Bench? 2/15/13

Troy Built string trimmer that needs a bump button and bolt for the head. It's left hand thread and from what I can tell, I need to replace the whole gearbox to put a new head on it since they supposedly don't make this one anymore. Stihl 026 that sat full of fuel for over 3 years. Is...

    2 saw plan

I can't imagine owning an unmodded saw. I've put so many tanks through my ported 026 PRO that I forgot what it was like stock. Then my boss asked me to get his running today. The stock one is definitely choked up. A lot. I also can't imagine only two saws. Two of each in 10cc...

Don't you just love dealing with buyers?

Man, sometimes buyers are just pleasant to work with. They have respect for power tools, ask relevant questions, know how to start a saw, know how to tune a carb, know what they want, etc. Sometimes you get people that make you want to take your saw and leave without the $$$. :bang:

Best chain for non AV saws?

STIHL MS460, MS461? I have the oportunity to buy both new! I need help deciding!

Get a MS660. There are a lot of opinions here but when it comes to felling and bucking, I would and have on many occasions run a MS660 all day before I pick up any 70cc saw. Now having said that, I recently picked up a MS440 just so I would have a saw that was TRULY lighter than my MS660...
