How's your wood pile holding out?

Today was a nice day to go out and split some rounds as a hedge against complete exhaustion of wood supply.

    Crap!

As a weekend warrior, I've got the beer thing covered.:-P I do have a neighbor with a press, so I'll give him the opportunity to straighten it out, but I'm not holding out much hope. Seems as though the steel in those bars has a real good memory. Still plenty of rounds to split before my next...

    Crap!

Had a Red Oak hung up in some trees today and started working from the bottom. Got about 8 rounds cut, and it seemed as though it would never break free even with some vigorous persuasion with my foot wedge. Right in the middle of the next round it decided to slide. All I could do was stand back...

    The Beg for Manuals Thread

Stihl 029S Shop Manual? I've got the owner's manual, but would like to get a shop manual. I need to address a few minor issues that have been dogging me. The specific model is the 029 Super. Engine family YA8XS.0645RA 56cc. Thanks in advance...

Sounds intriguing, but I've got neither the time nor inclination to tinker with a saw that's running perfectly fine. It'll be a 2nd saw for the dirty jobs for sure.

I may have to wait til Monday to order the 261. None of the supposed dealers in my area are stocking it. I've got a contractor supplier that claims they can get any saw in a day. I'll see if they can back that up... On a side note, is there any advantage to the Quick Stop feature on the MS261C-Q?

    Suggestions sought. Next Stihl?

Gents, I'm looking to buy a 2nd saw for personal woodcutting use. I've been using a Stihl 029 Farm Boss that I bought new about 18 years ago. I struggled with Homelites before that. I would like a professional grade saw that is at least as light as the 029 (18" bar), yet still enough power to...

    I just bought a splitter

Here's a Wisconsin AENLD engine (9.5 HP) or thereabouts, with a custom-made pump mount and new 2-stage pump. I ditched the chain and sprockets along with the single-stage pump and couldn't be happier. I did have to make accommodations for a larger tank however. If you want details, I'll be happy...

Minnesota Logging on the River History

If any of you yearn for the days of old, I think you should read this article. It was written by my grandfather Curt Williams and published in 1958 in the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer. The magazine started in 1940 and still exists today and is known for its splendid photography and art work...
