    Saw shed is shaping up!

If you cannot insulate and install fire stops and or retardants then you might consider simply giving the osb a few costs of white gloss latex paint. It will help with overall visibility, cut down mold mildew etc., provides a high heat visual indicator, and increases the length of time before...

Premature bar wear mystery on new MS 661 C-M

At this point everyone should go back to using handsaws. Chainsaws obviously have to many magical parts.

Asking too much for chain packaging to tell the sizes?

Yes, it was too much. Obviously it was a long play to aggravate you. Well played on the part of chainsaw chain retailers. True troll vision on their part.

Using cases of 20 year old Castrol 2 cycle outboard oil.

Use the 20 year old oil in a 20 year old saw to cut 20 year old trees. It would be best if you were also 20 years old. The saw should be the same age as the user or the oil might implode.

Premature bar wear mystery on new MS 661 C-M

Anyhoo. It does not look as though the side plates are resting on the bar rails on the top of the bar in the photos. Might be crap in the groove, I suppose it could be hammered out already. It does look like the side plates have taken a beating. The wear pattern on the bar looks typical...

Premature bar wear mystery on new MS 661 C-M

Nothing compared to the average 661 owner. So at the moment... A chain could expand if it gets hot. A bar could expand if it gets hot. More oil could keep both from getting as hot. If more oil was applied which of the two would expand less? Why does the bar need to be replaced? If the...

Premature bar wear mystery on new MS 661 C-M

It is all theory. It gets called law when it is a good theory, perhaps stubborn theory.

Whats the deal with these knock offs and how do they get away with it?

Here is how it was explained to me... Unless things have changed... The plaintiff(Stihl, etc.) must request fed intervention and prove that great harm has been done to them. This process is not free of expense or quick. Different for individual parts, complete parts sets and complete saws...

    Ugly rumor?

You can punish traitors... no more products from these companies... GM, and any related brand. Seriously should have stopped supporting GM in the early 1990s, at the latest. 3M Apple Microsoft HP, all hardware companies. Stihl Husqvarna All power tool brands. Zama Walbro Tillotson Stick it to...

    Ugly rumor?

Tecomec is out of the P/C business, supposedly. Any P/C stock you see is old stock, dodgey in some cases. Meteor, meh. Cylinders are junk, pistons are typically decent. If it is not OEM, it better be cheap. If an AM piston is fifty percent of OEM, going to use OEM if it is available. AM...

McCulloch 6-10 Auto - Japanese made parts??

Koyo ball bearing, made in Japan. Not sure why you would think Mccullochs were all an USA product. Mcculloch had some sort of relationship with Echo(whatever it was called back then) in terms of non chainsaw products, string trimmers, etc.

    Alternative Starting Methods?

I think the m18 is the saw that is being tried on a couple of the utility trucks. There is a big saw and small saw, the two saws use different batteries. The bigger saw is supposedly impressive, the smaller is not so much.

Is it time to get in, or time to get out?

There is barely enough business to keep them busy now. Most “saw shops” have branched out to full yard care/ other equipment shops to keep the doors open.

Is it time to get in, or time to get out?

The days of “large scale” employment in those fields is coming to an end. Just like the days of the 60” bar. The downside will be the cost of the equipment for the few still doing the work. I would expect to see new 90cc saws easily hitting the over $2000.00 range in the next tens years in...

Is it time to get in, or time to get out?

When the typical home owners shift to battery in mass the cost of gas powered equipment will increase dramatically. Brick and mortar stores rely on home owner business to keep the doors open, as do the manufacturers to offset the cost of R&D, marketing, distribution and commercial equipment...

    MS250 Mods

The use of the term “bro” screams idiot hour. As does the recommendation of a 362 and 201 to replace a 250.

Is it time to get in, or time to get out?

Locally to me in regards to residential owned equipment... Gas powered push mower sales has started to dip, battery powered is taking the share. Gas powered blowers dipped, battery powered took a big bite. It is what I use. Gas powered trimmers about the same as the blowers. It is what I use...

Dirko HT Red is not fuel safe...

It will happen to any RTV that smells like acidic acid. You should think of this in terms of compromise among goals. Dirko is a fairly safe product to expose employees and the general public to, it is also fairly low in environmental impact. Even it’s cured state removal can be done without VOCs...

Dirko HT Red is not fuel safe...

Cured Dirko HT will break down inside a 2 cycle crankcase if excessive goobers are present. It basically becomes pliable and forms an emulsion that will plug up a spark arresting screen. Keep pulling it over and it will form a bubble and pop. However, only the extra boogers were affected, the...

    Alternative Starting Methods?

Get a battery powered saw, if you are close to an outlet get an electric saw. I know more than a few folks that have serious medical issues that have made the switch to some sort of electric saw, it works for them. Yeah, they cut slower, then again these folks move slower. If you cannot...
