Really really really want a tractor

I picked up a 2820D Yanmar for 11,500 out the door with a new front loader and a 6' brush mower. It's a grey market tractor that was rebuilt and sandblasted and repainted. Runs and looks like new, a real workhorse. There's deals out there, you just have to look. A Kubota equivalent would cost me...

    Foundation spray foam

I used pink board foam and canned foam for the perimeters. It was a night and day difference. On the beam sills (150+ year old Victorian) I did 1" due to the r value of the wood beams. On the addition I did 2" of foam since the sill was 2x. Didn't take too long and we have seen a huge difference...

    Chimney question

Contrary to belief, the larger the diameter of chimney on a modern woodstove, the worse the draft. Large chimneys were just fine with older non efficient stoves due to the amount of heat they sent up the chimney. A modern woodburner puts less heat up a chimney. The larger the diameter, the worse...

That's a 2820D. It's a grey market tractor that has been updated to American safety standards. It has a 34hp diesel with a powershift transmission and 4 wheel drive.

What additions are you making to your 2020 firewooding arsenal?

Nice! Mine has been too big at times, but I can't overload the thing. Mine does have the sides and the top pieces, but I got tired of trying to chuck wood over the sides. For hauling, you can't beat them.

What additions are you making to your 2020 firewooding arsenal?

Where did you pick up the tongs? I want to get a pair of them, one for each eye of the loader until I can afford a grapple. I used chains but it still was a back breaker and took way too long.

What additions are you making to your 2020 firewooding arsenal?

I've had the military trailer for around 9 or 10 years now. I do have a 3 point cable winch that my uncle always used. It needs re-welded. I am looking forward to using the winch since the tractor had 4 pto speeds. The slower speed (under 540) will be nice.

What additions are you making to your 2020 firewooding arsenal?

Did a workout today with the military trailer and loader. I want to get logs up to the house so I can work at my leisure.

What additions are you making to your 2020 firewooding arsenal?

That's what I told my wife. I have the invoice from the previous owner and he paid 17500 after getting it delivered to Ohio.

What additions are you making to your 2020 firewooding arsenal?

Yep! It's been refurbished in the states (not a VN tractor). It has the powershift transmission which has 5 gear ranges (including creeper) and the powershift has 3 forward, neutral and reverse. It was a little small for the previous owner here in ohio that bought it out of Alabama, so he traded...

What additions are you making to your 2020 firewooding arsenal?

I bought this yesterday. A 83' 2820D yanmar. It's a 33hp 4wd tractor. I'm hoping next year to purchase a grapple for the front of it.

    Newmac wood furnace-worry about smell

Everytime you hit a new high temperature, you'll get an odor. Eventually it will go away when all of the oils burn off and paint cures. Anyone burning wood should have a CO detector, better safe than sorry.

Raising the height of the wedge on my DHT splitter

The 4 way kit comes with an adjustable wedge (or used to anyhow). Like mentioned above, it does cause alot of stress on the wedge. Our kit had 3 height settings.

Advice on using an EPA stove?

Adding wood to a fire will slow it down temporarily due to the moisture in the wood. If it's hot when you close it down, it should get hotter and you should still have alot of flames. It's not going to put out the heat of the Daka. I think of the new furnaces as heat pumps and the oldschool...

Advice on using an EPA stove?

Yes. After a bed of coals, load the furnace and give it about 10 minutes or so to get hot. Once the furnace is starting the heat up, since its manual you can close it down in a couple stages. By the end, it should be burning very hot and you'll should have constant secondaries for at least a few...

anyone with problems with there heatmax

Our register temperatures average around 100 degrees. Our LP furnace puts out 135 degree air. While the woodfurnace register temperatures are much lower, the woodfurnace does a fine job of heating this home. I'm not sure about the heatmax, but the Caddy style fire boxes do well with the damper...

anyone with problems with there heatmax

What type and size of chimney are you running, and when you say good seasoned wood....how long has it been split/stacked and covered? That's a large firebox to not produce any heat.

Whats best small gas splitter 4 the money?

I have a DHT 27 ton and it's been an excellent splitter. I also have a 4-way that I use almost everytime I split. If I see a knotty piece I wait till the end, remove the 4-way and split with the single wedge. It's never given us any issues with starting and I split everything.
