    Poplar

tulip popler is easy to split, handle and makes great warm season wood. I either split it really small for starting the coals or I split about 6-8" pieces fro overnight warm season burning. Actually does well in my stove.

    Stove vs Insert?

I know we went with a freestanding for a couple reasons. A freestanding unit will give you more radiant heat without the need for a blower. When your power goes out, no blower, not so much heat either. The stoves have better boxes for loading. I LOVE my side load box. I can get more into...

Meh, I get the stuff at Rural king for $5 a gallon. I use Dolmar synthetic oil to mix with. Been good to me.

    thinking of new saw

Get a Dolmar/Makita 5600. My older 5100s runs like a raped ape with an 18" bar it is a beast of a saw. Between my 421 and 5100s I kick rocks at my other orange saws..... LOL

Planning on replacing engine on log splitter

Harbor Freight motors are hard to beat too, although that sees a little late for this post. I put one on mine and its been working great for about a year with first pull starting each time. I also upgraded the pump from 11gpm to a 13gpm and can notice the difference in cycle time.

    Firewood 50 lb Bagging

Dog food and horse feed bags work great for that. We go through about 4 a month on our place, so I just store them in a trash can. This time I year I fill them from a bin of shorts with chunk wood. Easy to move around and if one tears it goes in the burn pile. They last a really long time if...

    Good problem to have

Good problem to have. I'm not near that scale, but my stuff sells itself. Once I sell to a client they usually stick around. Quality wood and quality service speaks for itself.

    Firewood on pallets

You could just take a skid, cut some 30" 2x4's and screw them to the sides of the skid. Fill er up and you will be fine. Or, you can build something like this3164

What are you working on this summer/fall/winter?

Early summer I processed most of my wood for next year. I added raised beds for veggies, which have been awesome. I edged and mulched every bed around the house with pruning, weeding, etc. I also added 2 new beds around my deck and edged them with field stone from our fields and then back...

    Whataya do with the crotches

Split off what can be split easily and then pile it on some skids for bonfire wood. Burns longer on a pit ;) :blob2::havingarest:

Try Dinobags. I got 9 shipped to house for right around $100, but I live in OH.

    vented bulk bags

I use the forks on my tractor to hold the bag up and actually set the bottom on a skid. As the bag fills up it will self balance for the most part. Sometimes have to "help" it get a solid base. Then I lift from the bottom to move it and it keeps it off the ground to get air underneath. I got...

A good laugh, was going to buy a saw off a guy today. Warning foul language.

I would say my very limited experience (I never win those measuring contests) that on my bars paint wear and tear is equivalanet to me using the saw in ways it really shouldn't be. I cut a mix of most of the wood you find in Ohio, but rock hard standing dead locust, oak and elm isn't exactly...

That's what I am saying Jeff. If he didn't take care of his chain what are the chances he took care of the rest of the saw? Know what I am saying Vern?
