    051 Stihl problem ????

Hi, I just picked up a really nice 051 Stihl, all original and runs real good. The problem is when it sits unused for a while Oil from the chain oil tank finds it way into the crankcase and past the piston, and locks the engine, remove the spark plug, drain it out and it starts and runs fine...

    090 Stihl ??????

Thanks Guys, That makes the most sense I have heard yet, Lower crankcase volume !!!!! Somebody put some time into doing the modification. The saw came from Washington state, does anybody recognize their work ??? Think I should put it in, add a snowmobile carb., unhook the governor, see how it...

    090 Stihl ??????

Hi Bill, The weights are built like that, But they are welded in, and there are no drilled holes for the bolt on type weights. There is about 4 or 5 different crankshafts that were over the span of the 090. The newest style is like the 066 ect. and are pressed together, yours is the older forged...

    090 Stihl ??????

Thanks Mark, Its really strange, the crank looks totally stock except for the two weights added. They are about 3/16" thick and are welded to the insides of the counterweights, leaving just enough room for the rod to pass thru. Some of the older 070 & 090 crankshafts had similar weights that...

Is there anybody out there that can explain how balancing works, Was this done to compensate for a heavier piston or...

    Stihl Contra/Lightning S

090 piston Hi Bill, yes I understand the cylinders are different. I have a Lightning S cylinder that is in like new condition, the piston was missing. The inside of the S series and the 090 cylinder are exactally the same as to size and port position. The pistons are constructed differently but...

    Stihl Contra/Lightning S

090 vs. Lightning Hi Martin, Yes I measured all the port locations inside the Lightning S to an 090 cylinder, and looks to me like the 090 piston will work fine, Wonder how hard it will be to start with no compression release??? How the heck did you end up with a John Deere 830 over there...

    Stihl Contra/Lightning S

S series Lightning Hi Martin, Thanks for answering the clutch question, I have only seen one other Contra/Lightning S and it had the small clutch, The owner said it was original, but I didn't know for sure. I have a good 66mm cylinder for the S series, and a good piston for a later 090. And...

    Stihl Contra/Lightning S

Contra/Lightning S I did some measuring, and believe the 090 piston to be the same as the S. I have one of those on hand. Now, who has a parts book for the Contra/Lightning S series, that could answer the clutch question???? Thanks,379 Pete

    Stihl Contra/Lightning S

Hi, Is there a Stihl expert out there that can tell me if the 137cc Lightning S used a bigger clutch than the standard 106cc Lightning ???? If you have a parts book for the S series it would be a great help. Also is there anyone who has a 66mm piston for the Lightning S they would sell ...

    Stihl 066 exhast port question

Could be I got a freek cylinder, All I know is I like it !!! The old red eye will out cut my MS 660, I also put a NEW 660 carb on the old bugger!! with the thin base gasket, Got to spend the $18.00 for a compression release though, its a bear to pull over.

    Stihl 066 exhast port question

The port looks factory, and the gaskets line up perfectly with the 064 port, 044, 064, 066, and MS660 all use the same number gasket according to the books???

    Stihl 066 exhast port question

Its on page 25 of the 064 - 066 service manual, you need an adapter plate to use an older muffler on the newer cylinder, because the port is longer, but the same gasket is used in all of them.
