    I understand the 371 has a 1 ring piston and the 372 has a 2 ring piston.

Any other differences? Is the 372 any better than the 371?

Thanks for any help on this.

    Performance wise no.

    Side chain adjuster.
    Tank vent.
    Brake handle.
    Top cover.
    Starter housing.
    Fuel/oil caps.
    Air filter cover clips.
    Later 372's have limiter caps.
371's had the black/non limiting ignition module.

If you come across a good 371, don't pass it up.

I think the crank bearings are smaller in the 371 also. when Saw Troll see's this he can verify.

The 371xp I have been working on has 2 rings I believe.

In the hands, you can't tell the two apart.

There aren't many prestine 371's surviving, if you had one instead of a 372 it would set you apart from the masses....you'd be the kool kid on the block!

    An example;

My 1998 371XP had 2 rings when I got it but I think the cylinder and piston were replaced. When I had it ported I replaced the 2 ring piston with a 1 ring aftermarket piston. If you think a stock 371/372 cuts nice get one ported:jawdrop:

A 372 I pulled out of the box this week.

Later 371's had 2 rings from memory. It was en EPA thing.

The crankshaft brgs are all the same.
