I'm a dentist...and yes...those tools are handy.

What prompted such a teardown ? what kind of time is on the saw?

I am not a dentist, but I have been using dental tools for years, I get them from several local dentists when they buy new stuff, they work great for cleaning small grooves on any machine....the best thing is they are incredibly strong and don't break like the cheap steel stuff you buy from tool dealers.
