Band mill blade guides

Need to pick up a couple of inches in the width of cut. With the design of my guides I can gain about 4" of clearance without the guides. Can I make that cut by cutting slower? Increase blade tension? Any other suggestion or is it just a waste of time and possibly the a waste of a good log?

I don't have a lot of experience but I have tried it and it was a complete wast of time.
I suggest you try it on a waste log first
