As per title.. I started milling logs with a medium sized saw 64cc and its going OK, I'm in the process of purchasing a larger saw 395/1320xp but have a few new loops of 3/8 .050 gauge chain would I be able to run these with a big saw until their worn, mainly cutting soft/hard wood in the 26inch range with a 30"-36"bar?

What gauge would you all recommend once I replace bar/chain and possibly sprocket ? I don't see myself exceeding 36" living in the northeast.

The bigger gauge chain is said to oil better. I think you'll be able to use the chains you've got, but my opinion would be that when it comes time to buy bars and chains to buy .063 gauge.

Can't say for the 3120, but for a 395 you'll be fine. But you should consider an auxiliary bar oiler if going 30" or above, no matter what the gauge. You can buy one easily enough, but lots of info here if you search to custom build your own.
