Can you please ID this tree for me before I have it cut down?

I tried to get pics of the crown, branches, bark, and leaves. It's not in good shape -- and I'm wondering what projects I may be able to use it for (or if it will make good firewood!) depending on what tree it is.

I've got a few guesses, but based on my internet searching I can't nail it down.

Looking at pics of elms -- I think you're right!

Extra credit: what kind of elm?

I don't see an elm in the photo - but which tree are you talking about? The one on the right looks like a maple, maybe sugar maple. The one with compound leaves might be walnut.

Yes, I am talking about the walnut looking tree. Or elm, or whatever it is. The leaves are quite rough feeling, if that helps.

Then it is definitely not Elm. Could be walnut, or more likely, Ailanthus, aka Tree of Heaven. Can we get a closeup of the bark?

The third pic in that link has a closeup of the bark. It's def not tree of heaven -- because I know those trees and have a few on the property.

The tree against the corner of the house and with the leaf close up? That is absolutely an elm.

I thought tree of heaven or juglans from the first pic too!
The close ups of leaves and bark is elm though.

We need a woody ID thread on here anyway. @ATH I bet you'd be good at a "what is it ?" tree game...

I didn't see the other pics, just the first on with the leaves over the roof. I agree, the last two pics are Elm, looks like American Elm.

Regardless of what tree it is, I would remove it - too close to the barn imo.
