I'd be happy to pitch in some green paper with dead president's pictures to offset food cost.

Ian

I'm in.

wkpoor I should be able to make up there on the 8th, I'll be more than happy to help out anyway I can.

I have a new 16" chain for my 7900 and 372 that I'm working on, hopefully I'll be able to make an ok square filed chain out of it, so far it's not cutting all that well.

Trust me if we cut anything like we did at the Ind gtg for timed cuts, you better be bringing your round chisel work chains. Ask Ian, I even switched to round chisel on everything till I ran out, then went to square work stuff on the last 2.

You will kill a trick chain fast. Fair warning.

what ruined a trick chain?

Was it dirt in the bark? Or just something harder than pulp wood? that did em in.

Eric I never even brought trick/race chain with me, I knew better. All but 2 of my chains there at your gtg were off the shelf stihl RS, RSC, RSK,RSLK. Then a Oregon LP turned into a square work chain and a Oregon CL on the modded 5000.

I had no trick/race chains with me, ask Ian, I showed him my chains and he knows what I had at the last Ohio gtg.

I found this pic on the site to give you a idea why it would be a bad idea to run the trick/race chains in that type of wood Eric.
Look at the cutter and you will see there isn't much material left and a few might come up missing in the hardwoods or even a stiff piece of poplar.

Most likely that shagbark did it.

I mistakenly had two half-fast tricksters with me,not really the wild ones. They dulled quickly in that hickory. No big deal,I have files by the dozens.

I actually thought the shagbark was just fine .You stand a better chance of cutting that in the midwest than you would tulip poplar or cottonwood.

Oh say,I did inspect that chain that was giving me fits.It turns out that it was some off the wall stuff I got from a national supplier.Live and learn,no more of that stuff for me.I had thought it was Oregon until I got home and found no witness marks or tailed off cutters then it dawned on me.

Anybody have a big silver bullet coffee pot? If it's cold I'll be nursing a warm beverage of some kind. That is if we're going to be near power. I'm not one to take to camp coffee tho, I'm a bit of a coffee snob. I order mine off the net LOL

Ian

I was thinking of bringing another jug of root tea.

but I am not sure how warm it will stay after a 4 hour drive..
I noticed no one drank any of my campfire coffee that I had hanging by the stew pot. And to think it was Maxwell house.. LOL

One of the things I'm looking forward to at this GTG is a continuation of the last one. To see and learn more about chainsaws and meet some of the people on this forum. I'll have fun if I don't run a single saw.

It was plenty warm when I filled up my coffee mug for the drive home. That was good stuff. Maybe we can have another fire to keep it hot. We'd just have to keep the coffee pot full of it.

Ian

Haywire, I'm planning on having a small bon fire and a cook fire going that will have a place to keep food and coffee warm.

good deal.. I'm a bit of a pyro... I like a good fire. I had a good roaring one in the back yard last night.

Ian

So how many confirmed do we have so far, if it is nice weather and not storming that weekend?

I hear Ole Haywood has some special chains worked up for us for the cookie cutting this time.
So we better keep a :Eye: on Ian trying to take the top spot with that 375 in the 0-80cc.

Not special, but maybe (and I mean MAYBE) just properly sharpened this time. Whoever it was that said that nice equipment can't make up for ignorance has never spent a day with me. :greenchainsaw:
