Hi folks,
First post here - great site indeed.

I have an old stihl 084 and got a 3 foot bar for milling.
The bar is stamped with - 3/8, 1,6 , 113 dl.

There is a stihl cross cut chain on it (when bought) but it has a 3 stamped on it = 0.050 gauge, which seems incorrect. A 0.05 (1.3mm) chain on a 0.063 (1,6mm) gauge bar.

so - I want to buy a ripping chain as I have a bit of ripping to do.

will i go with the proper 3/8" 0.063 113 ripping chain - or would a 3/8" 0.05 113 chain also suffice ??

Thanks

Karl.

An 0.050 " gauge chain on an 0.063 bar will eventually tip over and cut crooked and eventually damage the bar and the chain.
If that bar has been used with that chain for some time chances are the bar will need dressing and maybe even crimping back to size.

I don't bother with ripping chain, I use regular chain and slowly convert to ripping chain over successive sharpening.
