I am wondering what to do with this tree? I of course want to remove existing cable and deal with what ever bracing problems are still there. I got that, but how do I deal with the damage already done? Do I try to remove the whole girdling cable? Or would this do more harm then good? Or should I just cut cable back as close to tree as I can? Any advice would help.IMG_20160812_101037.jpgIMG_20160812_100844.jpg

I wouldn't try to pull it out...looks like there are a few places where the tree has successfully grown back together. Anywhere you can get in there to cut the cable with diagonal cutters and not damage the bark much, I'd do that...even if you just cut it in one or two spots so the tree can expand in diameter pushing the cable out.

It may not make it...but at least you are giving it a chance!
