Hello

The stakes were left exactly one year in this red maple. Unfortunately the tree grew too fast and you can see the damage left behind as the tree tried to grow over the plastic hose leaving a depression. Will this tree recover ?

Thanks!

There is a fair chance it will recover. Probably need to plan on pruning the limbs around that...not necessarily now, but those are likely limbs that would be pruned off in the long-term. Just keep an eye on the trunk. You'll know in about 2 years if it is going to make it or not.

Thanks a lot for your reply. This tree had a very slow start this year and probably was being choked a bit by the obstruction. One side of the tree was producing big new leaves very fast, while the other side was bare and slow to leaf out for a long time. It is now all leafed out and looking fine so far.
