Most of us here know about Kioritz (Echo) and Shindaiwa's 2007 alliance. Today, March 16th 2009, Kioritz and Shindaiwa announced that the two companies will be merging and will be operated by Yamabiko Corp. It sounds similar to Jonsered & Husky, i.e. there will be still be two brands but both made by the same company (and probably will come out of the same factory.
Shindaiwa will close the Tualatin, Oregon headquarters and merge with Echo in Lake Zurich, Illinois. More info:

Echo just came out with the new line of saws, will they be dropped or painted red and sold under Shindaiwa?

    Hey Kyle

Do you see this affecting your business at all or will it be business as usual? I see the local dealers here going away if they don't get the same service they got out of Tualatin, which is just up the road.

Yamabiko seems like a confusing name, at least in English.
I hope it's not a name that will be used among the retail customers.

When I read the name "Yamabiko", this is what comes to mind:

No, the press release said that Shinny will stay with independent dealers.

This sucks, but I think we saw it coming with the merger last year and I believe a few blowers have changed colors already. I just hope shindaiwa is able to continue to produce the quality products they are known for and keep their identity. Echo makes a good product, but has been sliding down the slippery slope of box store hell.

Looks like all the little guys are getting gobbled up, first redmax, now shinny. Tanaka was rumored to be dropping the US market. Who knows who will be next....Dolmar? Solo? Efco?

What PB said. It's obviously too early to draw any conclusions, but I don't see it hurting us in any way, unless they decide to change distribution. That could be bad for us, because we have a very good relationship with our Shindaiwa distributor.

It sounds like both brands will continue to be sold independently, with a number of "unique" product under each brand. But I'm sure we'll be seeing more and more "crossover" equipment. Which is good for us, it expands and completes Shindaiwa's lineup in many areas.

Man 2009 is going to be interesting, trying make sense of it all.

So Husky nows owns Red Max and Sears sells Chinese made Red Max's and Call them Craftsmen saws. Shindaiwa and Echo are the same company should make things interesting. Ariens has tractors being made by Husky/AYP/Poulan, Allis Chalmers tractors are Snappers with Murray decks. John Deere's Walk behinds are Murray and their Snowblowers are Simplicity. Toro Tractors and Cub Cadets are the MTD junk. Exmark and Toro's are the same though we can't order parts for each. MTD is copying Briggs Engines and selling them as their own. And then throw in the flood of Chinese made knock offs, and it's going to be impossible to figure who to order parts from and if you can service their equipment at all.

Parts? I need to find a new carb for my T-20 trimmer, and an air filter as well. Shindaiwas are some pretty tough machines, in my limited experience. My old Echo SRM-2400 is an amazing trimmer, still runs like crazy, after years of commercia use. Combining the two can't be all bad...

You got me confused thinking about it.:dizzy: My husky dealer also sells Simplicity mowers and had a Allis Chalmers on the showroom recently. A guy asked who made it and the dealer said it was a simplicity. I guess some large corporation bought the company that controlled the AC name. The trademark right ran out and Simplicity snatched up the name and then threw it on some lawn tractors. Who knows.:dizzy:

It's even more confusing since Briggs and Stratton owns Simplicity, Snapper, Snapper Pro, Murray, Ferris, and Allis Chalmers.

It used to be I would walk down the OPE isle at any box store and be all like, "wow, check out this cool new stuff"! The more I work on equipment the more I realize the huge differences in quality thats out there. The good saws I work on (Stihls and Huskies) are a breeze to disassemble and service, and I appreciate how well made older saws and equipment is, like most Homelites from the 80s on down. Now when I walk down the OPE isle I think, what a bunch of plasticky junk! (save a few Echos and Efcos floating around out there)
