Hey Scott I saw your posts in the Urban Old-Growth thread on Buzzboard. I see you are well aware of the impact problems of understory destruction etc. from excessive rec climbing on a particular tree. This may end up being a big issue for rec climbing as it starts to become more popular. I would hate to see a party of say 5 climbers hike into a particular wild tree, do a climb and then have it happen all over again the next weekend etc, etc.

The transition from rec climbing into a more popular activity will be tricky. The potential impacts on land and trees are significant for frequently climbed trees. If you add peak bagging to the mix then it gets worse.
