We just purchased our first home. Our landscaper suggested planting a red oak tree in the backyard. They brought one from a 55 gallon pot. It was great for two weeks… Then it started to get brown spots all over the leaves, we have been watering every other day. I now know that July was the worst time in Texas to plant a tree. I will do my homework before planting other trees from now on. I'm not sure what to do to save this baby. Any suggestions?

Whether it needs guylines depends on a lot of factors. Size of tree vs root ball, type of material in planting hole (root ball can rotate in planting hole) or height of tree vs caliper of tree.

A tree will get stronger, but it doesn't hurt to support the stem for a growing season so the roots can grow outside the root ball and get established.
