The 36 have plastic oil tanks. They are known to spilt the seams. Pull the muffler off and check beneath it. Pull the clutch cover off and look under the chain guard where the oiler hose is. See if you find any cracks. You might be able to jb weld it back togather.

Ditto. There's a good chance that your muffler has come loose and that hot exhaust gases have burnt through your case. It's pretty common on this saw and the other Poulan and Husky saws based on this chassis. Like the man says, yank the muffler and take a look. There's a chance you can fix it, but it might be easier to just find a new chassis. A used replacement should not be hard to find.

Any idea how much a new chassis would cost?

New one is around $70. Does it have one of those Intenz bars?

If so, look at the plastic around the bar stud/bolts.

I put an Arbormax bar and chain combo on it.

    husky 36 leaking oil also

I bought a 36 off ebay and when i took it out of the box and put oil in it, it leaks bad. It leaks out of the oiler under the bar plate and also drips out under the flywheel. Im not sure about the flywheel thing, but isnt it supposed to have a check valve in the oil system to keep it from pouring out?

LOL The last time I was at my friend's place to get a couple parts, he showed me a little Husky case that a guy had brought in wondering if he could "fix it". As said, the muffler had loosened and there was about a 2.5" diameter hole melted out of the top of the oil reservoir directly below the exhaust. I turned it over and it was a Husky 36. I'm working on one right now but it has an air leak issue; oil tank is OK.

The man I bought it from is supposed to make it good. I dont mind working on it, I enjoy it. I going to pull the muffler today, I hope that is it because the muffler bolts are brand new hex head bolts.

I took the muffler off today and the oil is leaking at the tank seams along the top. oil is pouring out of the oil tank at the oiler because the oil pickup tube is missing so there is just an open hole basically.
