Howdy! Just need a step-by-step instruction on starting and operating a JD 440 Skidder. Never moved one before. Just need to know how to move it forward and backward. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Turn key on push starter button.

Then ya have to figure out which trans it has, syncro range will have 2 shift levers on the right side of dash, out board one from tip to bottom low-neutral-high-reverse more center is 'range' 1-4 kinda... use the clutch to shift same as a car pedal on the left all alone, right side will be brake and foot throttle, there is a hand throttle on steering wheel use that one mostly saves fuel and head aches..

Winching/Park brake on far right make sure it works...

The other version is the power shift, pedals are the same as well as throttle but the shifter will only have one lever and 2 tracks to run in, longer side fir forward gears short side reverse, suposedly you only need the clutch for starting and stopping...

Winch control is left side of the seat pull back free spool shove forward to winch detents in the middle only after pulling.

Blade control left side of dash back fir up forward a touch fir down all the way forward float

They is tippy so no side hilling... and they can go just about anywhere, but doesnt mean you should

I got the starting part down it's the shifting thats been an issue. Maybe you could walk me through the next operation after clutch into reverse?

Do I need to just move the far right stick to R?
Works just like a manual after that?
Left pedal is clutch.
Right is Throttle.

You gots the syncro range.

Range side also has a park function that is all the way forward on the inside shift lever.

First step on clutch.

Then inside shift lever move it ro the second position(2-5)

Then outside lever all the way back is reverse all the wsy forward low forward. The slolom in the middle is high gear just up from ther nuetral...

Any way pick one.. bump thr hand throttle up a wee bit past idle and let the clutch out like a car... though it will grab and take off nearly instantly...

From there you should be able to shift be tween high and low like a car, complete stop to go into reverse or change ranges

Range side top down park, 1-3, 2-5, 4-7, 6-8

L-N-H-R on main side

Interesting setup. All I run have been power shift. One with a converter, one direct (direct pulls better imo)
