I had this pretty nice piece of black locust out in my woods - a windfall from before I bought the property. I took the firewood off of it last year, and that's currently stacked behind my garage. The remainder of the trunk was about 15' long, around 22" at the base.

The first log yielded a beautifully clear 9x9 cant, and a generous amount of slab; I'll resaw a couple of the thicker ones on my vertical bandsaw. The second log wasn't nearly as nice - there were a couple of big ugly knots, and the top 1/3 was actually 2 pieces grown together. I probably should have made the first piece longer and taken the top for firewood, if I wanted to maximize the amount of high quality stuff. Live and learn - I think it will make a really nice pallet for stacking some firewood anyway.
