I did some muffler modifications today on the bridgeport. I did a ms 361 and a ms 440 mag. Used a 5/16 end mill on the 361, and a 1/4 end mill on the 440.

What do you guys think? Feel free to post pics of you muffler modifications too.

Thanks i really like the 440s cover. I opted to do the milling over just buying the dual port cover.

I recently modded the muffler on my poulan 2150. I don't have any pics though. I just basically gutted it and drilled a 1/2" hole in the front of it.

People said the 361 muffler was badly stuffed up, i have to agree bc when i got it all back together it was a totally different animal.

I wondered about the front facing one, i thought it would be wide enough area to not concentrate enough heat. Ill try it and see what happens. As far as burning my hand i can see that if the saw was on its side for any extended period. But as just a firewood cutter at the moment i dont fell many trees. I have enough saws to cut with i can afford to play with a couple:)

I have been going the tube route. Helps direct the exhaust and noise away better. But almost any muffler mod is a improvement. Yours look freaking clean. Mine not so much, but they work. (And the ugly dual port isn't my doing it's from walkers saw shop and hot damn it works good!)

I have a few more mild muffler mods. I keep them a little more quiet for in town. But most of my cutting is out in the middle of nowhere and on private property. So I can run whatever I want then. No noise complaints or spark arrestor requirements.

One thing is for sure they sound like there ready for battle now if nothing else:)
If you're cutting for a long period a loud exhaust can get tiresome more so if the gases are hitting the wood & exiting up towards your face Had a mate who was averse to Stihl mix oil (no sure which one) & the smell/fumes gave him bad headache & made him vomit could I suggest frequent rests & ear defenders & see how you go.
