Just finished building a rudimentary csm and rail with a buddy of mine and we made our first slabs.

Started out with a shorty cedar for practice...20161106_100346.jpg20161106_100400.jpg20161106_105516.jpg20161106_105533.jpg

Then we graduated to a larger red oak...

Fully addicted now and planning a bandsaw build.

Keep that csm handy 2 trim the logs too bigga diameter to fit the new bsm. Many replies on these threds comment on "never thought I'd access this big" Personaly I bought 60" superbar cause "maybe" couple months after delivery of same used all available & coulda used 72". 6 foot dual powerhead will come january, 046 shows up Saturday to go with ms 460.Lotta studying online & in the field to get this rig workin w/harmony (-; lookin forward to it.

Looks nice. My DIY rails are similar. You may want to eventually add a couple more cross members on the rails to handle various lengths.

And I'm jealous of your fork lift (my lower back is currently aching from a log I milled this afternoon but was in a place that I could not elevate it off the ground..)

The tractor is a spine saver, we are lucky to have it and I can't imagine wrangling these logs without it. We have more logs on the ground that are way too big for the tractor forks and we feel that we will be much better served by a bandsaw. Our build will be powered by a 16hp Onan (hopefully) and we are currently researching the pros and cons of automotive wheels vs bandsaw wheels. We think we can probably bring it in for less than $1000 because we already had the engine.

Gene1605 just started a thread on a mill he makes. He's helped several guys get mills built. He's in the process of printing the directions, I think all of the pics posted up. Those are some heavy duty rails. Welcome to the site, keep posting pics. All looks good, Joe.
