I could be wrong, but I would like to test my 044 against a stock 7900, and my ported 046 against a ported 7900.

Win or loose, it would be fun. Maybe at the next GTG.

What spikes are you running on the Mastermind 7900?

I think they are Pro Safety... I got them from Bailey's, if I remember correctly. I absolutely hate the way the stock ones look.

Chris, I did not say the 044 would win, but I said I would like to give it a go.

And for the record I said ported 046. I know the 7900 still has a size advantage, but I think it would be fun.

Chris, if I said my saws were better, and then was not willing to "walk the walk", your comments would have some merit, but that is not what I said, and your comments don't have any merit. Competition can be fun even if you don't win.

7900s are strong runners, and have a size advantage, but I still think it would be fun, nothing wrong with that.

I'd bet the old school 372xp vibes are less than the XT's..

And what about the vibe #'s on the 7900?

The original 372xp was 2.0/3.1 at WOT in wood, 3.1/4.0 at WOT out of wood, according to the DLG test report.
Factory specs was 3.5/4.0, but likely included some time at idle, which always (?) drives the numbers up.

Corresponding numbers for the 7900 were 5.8/4.6 and 6.3/6.4.

Part of the story is that the 7900 was banned from pro use in Germany around 2005, as the vibes were considered excessive. I don't know how the story ended....

My comment is that these numbers just is part of the story - how the saws are dampened is a major factor, but impossible to measure. Springs usually work much better than rubber in that regard.

That's true, but the 7900 is just an alien. Weight of a 70cc saw, power close to a 90cc saw.

It was only the first ones that weighted like a 70cc saw - that advantage disappeared during the production, and the late ones have been reported to weight pretty much the same as the (on paper much heavier) 7910.

As it is now, the 7910 doesn't have much of a power to weight advantage over the 576xp or MS441, only a tad more of both.
