Don't do it! A good friend of mine would rappel off palm all the time the same way until those little blades of grass failed him and a took a 60' fall and broke his neck and ribs.

Am I correct in assuming that apparatus on your back is a spikeless palm ascending platform Damie?

My only critique of your pruning technique is how few fronds you left in each tree. Slightly over horizontal's about as high as I raise them in order not to detrimentally affect their health.
