I have a 30 inch Oregon 72 on my chainsaw. I got it used and I am new to this. I just need to know what size file to use. I understand the angle but any other tips would also be helpful.

I also have a 27 inch Oregon that is stamped with 25. Same question for that one.

They are on a huskvarrna 371 XP and huskvarrna 266XP. Good saws? 20161110_170205.jpg 20161110_170321.jpg 1478826347496510318282.jpg

According to the Blount tech Fodder 72 will be 3/8 X 050/1.3 std size chain? requiring a 7/32 dia file. 25 is listed as 1/4 x 050/1.3 so that requires a5/32 file. Oregon used to do a small chain/bar service booklet gave all the info on size, filing bar care etc.

7/32" is correct for the chain stamped 72 on the driver on the first chain. The 25 stamped into the raker on the second chain is actually the suggested guideline of .025" lower height of the raker in relation to the tooth. I would assume that the second chain is a standard oregon 3/8" chain also taking a 7/32" file to sharpen. Should be able to identify by the stamp on the driver of the second chain, 72=.050" gauge, 73=.058", 75=.063...All standard 3/8" oregon chains taking 7/32" files
