It's an older saw built like a tank that will pull big bars.
I have found about half of the 045's and 056's to be labelled wrong, they've been around so long that handles and tags get switched.
The supers have a 54mm piston/cyllinder which make it 87cc's, and an extra exaust port coming out above the clutch cover. Mostly all of the parts for it are no longer available, but if it looks new than it's worth fixing to sombody. If you decide you don't want to rebuild it I may be interrested.
I've got a bunch of regular 045, 52mm pistons and cyllinders, but you want the extra cc's of the 54mm.
    this may help

thanks, I pritty sure its a 045 the guy had the original manual and a maintance log dating back to the 80's that he gave to me. I will get some pics up in a bit, I am letting the muffler bolts soak up some wd-40 so i can look at the piston

045/056 Super topends are hard to come by. Do your best to cleanup and reuse the cylinder.

Wow you got a beauty of an 045 there, you did good.

Well I searched "stihl" and it came up only 10 threads so I would say it's probably not working, lol.

I wonder how the scratches got there, looks like that saws only had about 10 tanks through it if that. Did he straight gas it or run it with no filter?

I will finish tearing it down tomarrow, but he said it quit around 1999 and he had let some one barrow it, and they put old mix in it? (Not straight gas)thats when he stashed it away in his shop and today he was cleaning out his shop
