My 460 pulls like a monster and just absolutely screams. I love that saw. The 361 does too, but just isn't quite what the 460 is.

Man hard choice, the 038mag and the 056mag more or less built the American logging industry into what it is/was today. Bullet proof saws that have stood the test of time and abuse, and simply had what it took to get it done.

My vote goes to the 044 though, it's the only saw that Stihl couldn't kill and that says a lot about the saw. The perfect balance between weight and power and they still haven't made a replacement. :(

If your poll is for the best Stihl available why did you list a bunch of discontinued saws.

And WTF is up with the 031 and 290?

Sorry, but have to say this is as dumb a poll as there can get, it's like a question from a little kid.

    Run what ya brung.

If Stihl would/could only make 1 saw, and discontinue the rest, it would be the 290, period. They would make up for the loss with pure numbers.

There are very few of us here that would run a 290 , or have one as our only saw.

my 460, even though it stihl is on its second tank of gas, went thru a 3 foot live walnut at 3" above ground level straight and smooth. I did get a little chip clog in the cut, but that is likely due to my technique. The stump was flat like a pro logger had done it. 460 rocks!

I can see why potentially the 290 shouldn't be on the poll since its not a so called "Pro saw", but no big deal since its a great choice economically and suits your average use just fine. Why not the 031? I know a lot of people that think real highly of 031's.

Yeah, my buddy Rich has two 031s that he has used exclusively for over 30 years. He swears by them. I happen to like my 009 a lot, but I wouldn't suggest it be included in the poll. LOL

044 is my all-time favorite, but if you would have added the 064, I would have chose that instead. They're both awesome machines. I have a Mint 044 and a Mint 064. In fact, I probably won't use them. Just like looking at them. LOL! Oh, almost forgot, I got a Mint 036 Pro with remnants of the original purchase sticker still on the muffler. [IMG]
