The 261 sounds like a good choice - its lighter than the 362 and good power.

I ran a friends 261 and liked it very much.

The 261 and 460 should work out well for you.
A fellow member here messaged me and took time to answer some questions I had and to ask me some questions as well and he suggested I look at the 261/460 tandem instead of one saw. So I researched and looked and read, and it was pretty dang good advice. Many thanks

The 362 is a boat anchor compared to the 562 performance wise.
I haven't run side by side with 562. Many report problems with 562 in hot weather. I've never had any problems with 362 in hot weather. Only hot weather problem was me.

My dealer has had zero problems with the 562, but has only been selling them for two years. Mines been flawless.
The 362 has problems as well and it's painfully slow and doggy when ran beside a 562. My friend had a 362 and after running my 562 he's looking for a 562 now.

Ive had 45 saws ported since 2010. The most disappointing saw I have owned (without question) was the 362cm and 362cmr. Didn't like anything about them. Would never own another any longer than it took to sell it. Pick up a 262, 357 or 562, 2260, or 6100 and you will get a good grasp on what a 60cc saw is supposed to feel like. If I was stuck on Stihl, Id buy the 10mm 044 in the classifieds for $600 and have a saw that weighs near identical to the 362, won't feel as bulky in the hands, with way more power. The 362 missed the mark with the 60cc class.

All true.

An 044/440 makes a 362 completely irrelevant..too close in size and feel.

I thought the title of the thread was to talk him into a 362 ? Seems like its mostly talk out of getting one ?
We need the Goat's opinion on this saw .

The mtronic 362 runs pretty good when you get them run in , but its still no 562/2260.

I'm not a fan of that old ms362. But I sure would like to check out the new improved type 2 lighter versions in 362 261. Wonder if they cut better stock?

362II then 261II

I think randy said the exhaust was a smidge higher in the incredible version..i still think the 362 needed more of a makeover than just a lighter clutch cover and different cooling fins..ill take a 361 for 60cc stihl saw anyday.

I'd like to try Huskies but would have to drive 4 hours round trip vs 10 minutes.
Would really like to try Dolmars but same not much for dealer network.

I don't know how much there is to cut in Indianapolis, but here in N.W. Montana you'd be setup for nearly everything.

Had my 362 for 4 years and really like it. Usually grab it before the 440, the 660 is fun but gets heavy with my beat up back.

So come springtime I'm finally gonna pull the trigger and get my first brand new saw. I want something that will pull a 25" chain. Stihl is going to be what I go with as they're what I'm most familiar with and also the only dealer that offers support anywhere near me. I'm currently running a 460 , but I don't need that much saw at all. Hell, I really don't NEED a 362 either, but on occasion a 25" bar comes in handy. I'm waffling between the 362 and the 461. My head says "362, it's more than enough saw and it's $300 cheaper" but my adrenal gland says "461, it's big and mean and chews through wood like a pi$$ed off beaver". Oh, and the wife is no help as she told me to get whatever I wanted lol. Really leaning toward the 362, but still WANTING the 461.

The only specialist scenarios where I can see a need for two saws are: (a) if you're doing climbing work, and need something very light and aggressive; or (b) doing milling, and need something with a whole lot of grunt

Outside those scenarios, something in the low-mid 70cc class should do everything you need it to do

I wouldn't be concerned about not having a Husky dealer right on your doorstep - I visit mine once every 18 months or so - only say this as the Husky 372XP and 576XP would both be perfect - both are well balanced and easy to use all day - smaller than the MS460, and fine for smaller wood - but also fine for bucking large hardwood trunks, which is what my 372XP has been pointed at for most of the last few years

With either of these, no need for a second saw

Unless you just want to buy one ...
