Is that 12" wood? Those splitters have their places but I cut a lot of hedge and tried one and it just wouldn't split the bigger stuff or anything with a crotch.
yes, approximately. If it looks like seriously screwed up grain I leave it, but smallish forks are fine once you get the hang of technique. I'm finding more people have small fire boxes so 12-14" seems to keep most of em happy. This wood is fine to split longer if need be. Worst is anything very stringy. Ends up needing more noodling in that case. Could really use a hydraulic upstream of the ss, with log lift and multiway knife for big rounds instead of noodling them down to size. One day.
