Almost looks like box elder

Boxelder for sure. I read somewhere that the color is caused by a disease or fungus of some sort. Never really cared to research it further as boxelder is a weed tree that grows everywhere around here. Not terrible firewood but not great either. It's of the maple family and comparable to any other soft maple wood.
+1 box elder. Had one in my yard I took down several years ago. That's a typical reaction to injury and stress in Box elder and some oak species. There are many causes but generally it's the same mechanism that causes burs.
Generally speaking Box elder injured wood has a more vivid red while Oak wood has a darker shade, almost wine-like.
I like it.You know, some people prize that stuff:

Of course some people prize almost anything but I admit the red streaks are kinda neat.
