What is this?

working on a ms 280 and i found this pin right behind the chain catcher. there is a round molded spot that looks like some should be there. went all through the IPL but can't find it. just buggin me and i thought one of you gurus would know. if ya need more pics let me know. thanks.

That is a travel limiter. No rubber required. It just limits the amount of movement between the engine and tank.

that was my first thought but nothing in the IPL.

Yup, a standoff. Interesting design, though... seems like it would have been better to mold it into one of the housings... maybe a quick engineering fix?
