Trying to decide what to do with my CS-400 that blew and Echo wouldn't cover (shock). Keep it for a parts saw for my other 400's or rebuild. Where would be a good place to get piston, ring and ??? Haven't checked the jug yet but any recommendations would be helpful. Before I retired as a machinist we would hone out cylinders and install oversized rings. You do that on a chainsaw? Never did a chainsaw. You experts, CliffR, I'm willing to listen. Thanks.

I'm no expert but you can't hone out the cylinder. If it's chewed up pretty bad, replace.

You can't hone out a cylinder because you would take off the nikasil coating.

The other 400's and 490's are amazing, thanks to all for that help. Now I know I can't hone the jug, after a broken piston and ring I'm sure if I clean it up I know what I'm going to see. Have 4 cs-400's now so probably just leave it as a spare parts saw. Did get a package today from Echo, a 16 oz. bottle of mix oil and a note stating "We appreciate your business."

Oh yeah, where's a good place to get parts if I ever need them? Thanks.

Seems like I have heard that. I usually use partstree for the convenience, my schedule restrains me from getting to most brick and mortar stores. I did get my Briggs and Stratton parts from a brick and mortar dealer last summer. It was faster and cheaper.

If my hands didn't shake so bad from my stroke I would probably try porting, did quite a bit of that back in the day. One advantage of getting old is realizing when not to attempt something you shouldn't.

I'll second getting things from @fordf150. Quick shipping and he won't sell you what you don't need. No pressure sales are nice.

We ran into that issue on customer saws. Echo "dealer" is Home Depot and the only parts they sell is stuff like sparkplugs and cheap bars.

Ended up mail ordering. I forget the model series, (myst be one that comes on sale) but so far have replaced at least 7 or 8 chain adjusters. Very small screw and the screw and nut are soft as butter... aka... JUNK!

Very interested in this as Yamabiko increased all prices outside "consumables" (air filters and the like) by double digit and outside of chainsaws my fleet is 90% Echo and Shindaiwa.
