    Neighbor trouble

I spent a couple of hours today bringing the last of my dry wood onto my side porch. It is about 40' long and covered, made of concrete and brick with a flat roof. There is a door that goes right next to the hearth, so it is very handy. As I was bringing the last wheelbarrow up the ramps I hear this loud voice, shouting at me on my own porch "You don't save any money doing this".It was an elderly neighbor, a retired minister, who then told me "I was polluting the earth". I hardly know the guy, but I know a Leftie when I hear one, especially one that has been at the bottle. I told him I did save money doing it, that my gas bill was seldom over $25 a month and if he thought I was "polluting" why wasn't there any smoke coming out my chimney. He then told me that I was responsible for Global Warming, the "truth" of which I wasted a couple of minutes explaining to this jerk. His last volley was directed at my wife, who works for a company that owns refineries, "I can't forgive her for working for the biggest polluter there is".I replied, as the traffic was whizzing by, "oh, you mean the people who make the evil gasoline that goes in the SUV you drive?"
He proceeded to put his finger on my chest and tell me not too take him too seriously!I have a soft spot for old guys, and count many among my friends, but to see someone so unhinged over this "Green" religion displays just how evil and insidious this movement has become.

well ill tell ya either he has a weird sense of humor or you got a neighbor problem not much is worse than that you have no idea about the chain of events that can unfold with this scenario i would bite your tongue just a little and try not to let it escalate into him calling the township and everyone else on you looking for things illegal I'm talking stupid things I've seen it ruin peoples lives and have to move it happened to me an I've seen it happen to others .Confucius said always agree with the idiot or the drunk good luck you prob want to punch him but try to stay away.

I was responsible for Global Warming
Trees grow by photosynthesis. Tell him you've got a big pile of solar heat storage vessels on your porch. And that you transform that light energy into heat by means of controlled combustion.

I'm actually being somewhat serious. Can't envision myself ever paying dues to the Sierra Club, but I believe that we should all strive to be good stewards of our planet and myself think of my firewood as stored solar energy. It's a renewable resource and is available locally.

As long as your cuttin' patch isn't way far away requiring a 500-mile trail of carbon footprints, you're probably more green in your heating regimine than he is.

But then, as a retired minister, he maybe still has the preachin' in his blood and you were the closest thing he could set his rhetorical crosshairs on.

To bring things full circle, it sounds like this guy generates more heat than light by dint of his personality and demeanor. So if your pile gets low, stuff him in your woodburner for a spell, damper it down, and enjoy the warmth.

woodbooga: n. reg. dialect, com. to areas of NH and Maine; one obsessed with free firewood to mitigate home heating expenses. Used as a term of derision by non-woodburners who mock the presence of loose bark in pickup truck beds.

Throw some more wood on the fire. We had record low's here in Utah last week. And I want to help increase our growing seasons.

Yeah, have to be "nice" to the old guys. I have an older neighbor that stepped on toes when he first moved in. He has made it right with those he offended, finally.

His "shack" is about a 5,000 sq/ft pile of bricks.Logic and reason are not going to work with this guy.We live in a big city, and some people do not want to see any elements of country life invade their space.I stack my wood to season in holzhausens partly to keep guys like this at bay, but when I put it on the porch it is in a row.He lives across the street, away from the wood, but it is enough to make him unhinged.

Also whatever carbon you release by burning it would be released as it decomposed anyway. Woodheat = carbon neutral. Where does his heat come from, coal power plant, natural gas, propane? I doubt his heat is as "green" as yours.

Too bad the Ignore function does'nt work in the real word!

Sounds like you are doing your part to being neighborly and using a renewable resource.

What else is required of you?...
