the valve probably isn't your problem.
more info needed: cylinder size, pump size?
always on.......slightly off
what it might be
did this problem just start, or has it been happening?

i just bought the splitter over the summer and it seem to do it when i got it .
With the info provided so far we have no idea of the valve or the brand. A manufactures name of the valve or information on the splitter would enable us to give some ideas on how to start a repair. A full description of the splitter or a picture would be of great valve.
So far it sounds like the engine is not large enough to handle the pump.

my thoughts too, but i was trying to get more info out of him.So far it sounds like the engine is not large enough to handle the pump.
some could have swapped an original engine of more HP for the smaller one and sold it like that.
need to know cylinder size, pump. etc...any info would be helpful.

My splitter was doing the same thing so I adjusted the carb and it works good. I researched the problem here and kept coming up with "fuel supply problems will cause this". The guys on here were right.

yup, if it stalls, the load is bigger than the engine can turn.
Either
a. the engine is too low on power (tired, worn, out of adjustment, or basic engine size is too small)
or b. the load is too large (pump too large, or stahing on high volume up to too high a pressure, or main stage relief vavle set too high.)
or some conbination of both.

Just had a similar situation with our Troy Built splitter last weekend, the first issue of any kind, the valve wouldn't kick into a neutral position when the cylinder retracted fully. First we replaced the filter, same thing, then I sped the engine up via the carb adjustment and problem solved it works fine now.
The little Honda 5.5 has run a kajillion hours, vibration effecting a setting or worn parts was prolly our issue.
