    What knot?

    Most of you read of my misfortune with my pull rope last weekend.

    Of course, today a friend calls and wants me to help him tip a tree that's leaning the wrong way, so I gotta put it together again.

    I'm not going to splice the cut off section, rather I'm just interested in the best knot to use to tie a clevis onto the end of the rope. I'm no boy scout, heck I wear pull on boots as often as I can get away with it.

    Surfed around the good old interweb and looked at a bunch of knots, but I'm unsure which is best suited for the job. The rope is nylon, 3 strand, 1" diameter and the clevis is about +-1" diameter (round). I think a figure 8 will do the job, but if there's something better I'll sure listen.

    Bowline. It is easily untied. A figure eight when loaded heavily can be very hard to untie.

    Treeco, I'm not worrying about untying it. In fact, part of what led me away from that one is a description that it can almost untie itself when not loaded. I want this clevis on there till the rope is junk, then I'll cut it off if need be.

    Double bowline, it shares load, will not come untied, excellent, all I have ever used for those things, well, after I learned to tie knots that is, lol.

    +1 on bowline, or a running bowline if you're putting it in with a throw line.

    Thanks guys. I went out and looked at the old knot, it was a bowline, secured by about a foot of duct tape keeping the tag end and rope end together, so that's what I went with. If it works, why mess with it!
