    First fire of the year

    Just a "shoulder" fire, but it's funny how when it gts a little chilly outside I find myself yearning to burn. I finished stacking my firewood in the attached wood shed ( ie. Garage). Layed in 3.5 cords so i won't be out picking thru the piles in the snow for useable wood. God I love being prepared for a change, lol.

    A fire in september?!?! come on now. tell the wife to get a little closer then. how is it colder there than here in canada?? its far from hot but its far from fire lol

    Thought About It...

    ... but held off. Maybe next week. I heard it's warming up for awhile starting Friday. Still selling bundles of firewood for campers. They love what I supply--especially now.

    Forecast here is anywhere from 25 to 30 tonight. Not cool enough to try to the warm the house yet, but had I stayed any longer in the shop this evening I would have lit a small fire.

    It was 39-degrees by my thermometer this morning. Forecast for tonight is 31-degrees by morning.
    Yep, we decided we're gonna' close the windows tonight before bed... really hate to but...
    Supposed to warm back up a little by next week... shouldn't be needing a fire for at least a month yet.

    Had two little ones just awhile back when it stopped being high 80s and even 90s at night. When it dropped to the fifties, I lit 'er up!

    After two nights though, I stopped it again, got used to the cooler weather. Took me those two days to adjust.

    Happens EVERY year, I FINALLY get used to working in the heat and it doesn't bother me one bit, labor day, like a switch, bam it starts getting colder again and the first two-three nights I am freezing. At least I adjust back fast.

    I'm getting old - anything under 70 degrees inside the house and I'm cold. Lit a fire today because the house was down to 68, got the fire stablized, brought the house temp up to 76.... and then I took a nap.

    Yep I fired it up tonight too. Cleaned the flue pipes and checked the chimney, looked ok. Threw in some elm, a little pine and some rotten oak. Got a fire going in no time. I sure missed the smell of burning wood. Currently 38 outside here.

    Had rain and high 50's today, house dropped to 65, the wife wasn't feeling good, I'm getting over some sorta crud and didn't feel like bieng cold. Tossed in some splitter trash and Sassafrass, and got the house up to 74, then a big wedge of stinky Elm to low burn all night. Wife zonked out shortly after, and the Mutts are both crashed out in front of the stove. Musta been the right thing to do.

    Supposed to be low 30's for the next couple of days, and I am itching to play in the woods anyhow.
    Might as well get the season started.

    Well today's high was 48 and low tonight is 38 with 20mph wind so, yeah, threw some wood in stove and fired it up for the first time this year. I forgot how well the Blaze King works, and how easy it is to light, wow. The house was only 59 when I got home from work at 1 am so now its a nice 72 degrees. Probably will burn some tomorrow then its gonna warm back up to the 80's. Time to start hauling trees, and running saws again!

    Dropped to 37 here overnight and house is 68 this morning. Lit a fire last night in the stove in the family room just to take the chill off. It is nice to have that big pile of Splitter trash to burn for these transitional days. A small fire in the evening and everyone is happy. It was amazing having that first fire. I fell asleep on the floor and when I woke up, my chocolate lab was snuggling with me enjoying the fire as well. Wife thought it was pretty cool to see.

    The horses and goats were frisky yesterday, the cold seems to get them going. We had the first heating fire of the year last night. Burned up some oak slabs from the planks I cut this summer. The wood was still a bit wet after 2 months.
