Okay here is a few pics of what it is like for me to get firewood.
First is heading out,Second finding wood wish I took more of this as I hit the mother load of blow downs, third is some Wild Horses, I need these guy's to help haul logs.

Those trees look close enough to tow-strap to the road. :D

Did you have a trailer? (I saw one in some of your earlier pics)

Those horses look kinda small :D

Finally, did you eat that whole box of oranges all by yourself?

I run into the same horses or at least part of the herd often the pic was taken this Wed Today it is snowing no clear skies.
The best part, the pic does not show it all the trees are up hill some I can get to roll right up to the truck. Did not take a trailer as I was exploring new trails and road's going back Sunday to get more, the biggest tree will only go 20''
I am taking my buddy with me he was born and raised in Manitoba heck I am driving his Granddads truck.

Ya they were close to two hundred yards away. Some times I will have one walk right up to me say 50 yds then the dog will have to take a look and they either get pissed off at the hound or take off running.

So you are after about 2,000,000 trees then? :jester: Just kidding! (to both of you)

That's some good looking country you have out your way. 'Probably heading to Lethbridge this summer and am looking forward to the trip.

My wife's folks are from Lethbridge so a stop there would be the whole point of the trip, but I will keep those locations in mind and take a run out that way.

Thanks for the tip!

In 2001 I took the whole family to Calgary for the Stampede and we all had a blast. Spent a couple days at the Stampede, a day in Banff, and 3 days chasing cows on a ranch in Carstairs. Absolutely beautiful country..especially from horseback. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. It was by far the best family vacation ever.

I'm pretty sure my wife was ready to pack up everything and move until we started trading stories about the winters...that brought her back to reality.

Great pics thanks for posting them!

Well the house prices are going down, and lots of them for sale now too lol.
Hey remember a firewood permit here is $5.00 a Month:)

A trip to the Southern Rocky's is well worth it! Just take Hi way 3 to the B.C Boarder visit Frank Slide (Canada's worst mine disaster)Lots of good stream fishing in that area too. And if you are driving out in that big 4x4 lot's of four wheeling places and you will find some Fir tree's that are as wide or wider than the hood of your truck. (Bob Creek area)

That's beautiful country! Thanks for posting the pics. Wood cutting permits are per month? How does that work, can you just purchase a month or two and get as much wood as you need? When I cut on USFS land it's $15/cord and you get tickets worth 1/4 cord each. Once you have loaded your truck you have to fill out the permit and then staple the tickets to a visible log on your load. Both the rangers and CHP will pull you over and check your permit. :dizzy:

It is for 5cu meters of wood ( sometimes it say's 3 on the permit?) I have only been checked once in 15 years of cutting, as here the gov is too cheap to enforce it and the guy's and gals in F&W and the Rangers really like the idea of cleaning up the blow downs and dead fall I was told when I was checked for a permit, the guy said you should bring in a big trailer I was like ya but that would be over the limit his response was your getting rid of fuel for fires.I know that as I worked as a fire fighter in my early 20s. Very few people heat with wood here so it is very lax as to the rules. I can actually say they use common sense! I got some good tips to this area from the Girl at the forestry building. I told her I had not taken that road in two years she was like go you can cut the stuff right on the side of the road,Not a real road I needed the tire chains.

Mmmmmm... Lodgepole--I love burning Lodgepole. It grows in perfect diameters for keeping it in rounds.
Yes I guess that's why they named it that way lol. HI Southern Neighbor!I have stepped over the 5 strand fence many a time to say look Canada States. But up in the Rocks all you can find is a triangle cemented in the ground one side say's U.S the other CAN

I can't say I've seen common sense from any govt agency in California. You are lucky! My Stihl dealer told me one of his customers was pulled over by the CHP for moving his wood from his woodlot to his house. They told him he needs written permission from the owner or a receipt for the wood. They impounded his truck and saws and the whole deal is going to court. Unbelievable!

You would think after half the state burning up last summer everyone would be eager for us wood scroungers to clean up as much as we want.

Also known as "Hollywood". It is so perfectly straight and easy splitting. Stacks so perfectly I can stack it to the rafters. Burning Lodgepole also keeps the house at a comfortable temp, oak can run me out of the house. I'm burning about 50-50 Oak and Lodgepole this year.

Yup, it's one of my favorite types of wood to burn. We don't have hardwood here (enough for a good supply anyway), and I had never burned any... Until two days ago. It was a 3"-4" branch of a dead Hawthorne... WOW, I only got a few small rounds out of it, but they burned for a long time, and really threw out the heat!

Now I know what you hardwood guys are talking about... I'd love to get me more hardwood, and mix it with my conifer.:clap:
