I have a guy asking if I will ship my saw that is on Ebay to France. Does anyone have any advice about this? I know there are a lot of hoops to jump through with international shipping, if I decide to do it.

What about shipping cost? Where do I start?

Had a guy ask me on an 041. Go to fedex.com and you will need his address and their version of the zip code. Long story short for an 041 it would have been ~$125.00. Never heard from him again.

What's up, the Coneheads need a chainsaw???

"We come from France" :laugh::laugh:

I have heard bad things about shipping to some of the European countries, read up on customs charges and be carefull!!!

google usps, go to the calculator, if over 4 lbs. it has to go priority,
If it can fit in a flat rate box, about $47.50, if not, a lot more.

The online forms have gotten a lot more involved too.

Pain in the arse...

I dont know about all that. I just sold my first ebay item today and they are holding payment until it is confirmed delivered, or he leaves feedback.

I dont want to wait forever to receive payment for something that expensive...

Hell, I will answer back with a really high shipping price, or just tell him no. Sounds like more trouble than its worth.

Huh?????

Paypal is holding payment until it is confirmed delivered or he leaves feedback is what the email I got from Paypal said. Pissed me off real quick. Keep in mind, it was my first ebay sale as a seller.

I'd be madder than a wet hen.:angry::angry::angry::angry2::angry2::angry2:

Is this a new seller thing??

Must be a new Paypal BS policy..... Ebay is starting to suck really hard!!!!

I've shipped a number of things overseas for Ebay. The escrow business is something paypal does with new sellers. Supposedly it's to protect buyers from fraud. Being cynical, I suspect that paypal making money on the float may be a factor. Irritating, but you'll either get your money or the saw back in the end, and if you want to play on their court, it's their rules. Especially irritating is how Ebay and Paypal are the same company but pretend they don't know each other. On the other hand, it's a vast market.

As for shipping, my rule is no monkey business on the customs declaration, and shipped fully insured. If the guy isn't okay with that, it's no deal. Lots of times buyers will ask you to declare something with a $500 value as a "gift" with a value of $25. So if it gets stolen or run over, or seized by customs because of a fraudulent declaration, guess who is left holding the bag?

Good luck,

Jack

Good post, so if I am fully insured, it works overseas?

Yep, its a new policy that has been in for a couple months now. I just got off the phone with paypal. I ripped them up one side and down the other. Im gonna list my auctions from now on as "contact me before payment sent" and let them know they can pay by other means if interested. If they pull my account, hell with them. I got by before paypal and ebay, and I will get by after.

They did that to me on a $425 saw. I am pissed too but what can I do except wait until release date 21 days from sale date. I have a fedex tracking number that says it was delivered today but now I have to wait.

I sold a beauty of an 076 to a guy in Germany on ebay. I found out later that he's a member here (i forget the name) with an extensive collection.
It cost him $120 shipping (usps international w/ ins.) plus the $350 or so he paid for the saw.
The form was easy and it got there no problem. Insurance to Germany only allowed up to $500 but that may be different to France.
I'm not sure if I'd do it again. I only made a few dollars more as the second bidder was from the US, but I had some extra work and it took 3-4 weeks to get there which was a bit stressful.
Folks over there are hurting also and new power equipment is sold for what we would see as a criminally high price. I was in Fr. last year and a new MS290 was selling for close to $700!:dizzy::dizzy::dizzy:
Tough call........
