After finishing a small spruce for one guy in town I drove by to investigate chain saw noise. Seems a neighbor on the other side of the block was having a tree service guy take a couple of large ash trees down; climbing and swinging and taking it from the top down. I asked if they needed any help with cutting up the big stuff and they thought they could handle it.
Since it was so close, I carried my 840 with 36" bar down "just in case". There were a couple of large logs already on the ground so they agreed to let me cut one up just for exercise. Since there was a lot of smaller limbs down and plenty of hands but few saws, I walked back home to get my 7-10 (see McCulloch 7-10 thread for more details if you'd like). I cut a few limbs and handed the saw to Marv who'd been cutting with his 290 Stihl outfit with a 20" bar. He made about 4 cuts then with a big grin on his face handed it back and asked "Is is the chain or the power?". Both.
Later on the tree guy work working on a large limb from the ropes when his 2101 Husqvarna took a dump. He wondered if he could use the 7-10 to finish the sky work, sure why not. When he came to the ground, again a big grin, he suggest the 7-10 could handle a bigger bar (it's still fit with the 16" bar).
Well, since his bit Husky wasn't going to be doing any more cutting this day, they thought I could go ahead with the 840 and knock down the remaining trunks. Since they were very concerned about dropping them on the street, they strung a rope to allow them to pull them the other way against the lean.
With the trunks on the ground, my older son showed up and I sent him home to bring back one of my SP125's to finish the stumps since it would be handier than the 840. Apparently he didn't understand which saw I wanted (I didn't shut the 840 off for fear it might not restart) and carried over the McCulloch 55 that arrived this week (e-Bay purchase, honestly all I did was put gas in it and install the bar and 9/16" pitch chain). Well, it was already here so I used it to cut up another of the trunks, what a hoot!
He did go back to get the SP125 and we finished up the big stuff in pretty short order. A great day!
The 7-10 gets some air time
That bad boy is on the ground
Putting the 840 into the cut
The 36" bar was handy today
Be sure to pull it out before it binds
