Anyway lookin for experienced answers....not my wife's uncle pete's cousin had a really nice one! Thanks in advance....Lookin to buy soon and am lookin at 25ton plus!

I also can go pull behind gas or hydraulic 3-point style

Well, I'll put a plug in for my Brave Industries 5hp 22 Ton splitter... It will split anything that you're man enough to muscle up to it. I've had it for 9 years now I guess, and it's split everything I've set on it.

Made next door to you in Illinois :biggrinbounce2:

Don't pay any attention to the prices on the website... if you can find a dealer who carries the Brave splitters, this one should be around $1100-1200, that's what they go for at the farm stores around here IIRC.

Here's the link to the website:

Hey ToyFarm

We don't mean to sound like smartazzez either..but I have a tsc/huskee/speeco 35 ton and I split 22 cord this year. depending on how you work and how many are helping. I can stay busy with my cycle time but if you have helpers this model might be a little slow. Of course there are always more jobs at the splitting site. I am thoroughly happy with mine..sat 2 months choke one pull..running..makes me profitable. they are light enough to move around by hand and work fine. Have read bad things about them about having bad welds where the axle attaches to the hydro reservoir but since mine will never be loaned out and will not leave my property..that is not an issue. Good luck..I have also heard of checking out local rental places. Their turnover sometimes you may find a diamond in the rough..

American made??? Thats a change for the better! Only thing i've been able to find is the speeco/huskee, though i've heard mostly good, i'm not totally convinced.

I can get the 28 ton speeco locally for 1399.00 plus uncle sam.

Well, I just looked on their website, and the dealer locator page doesn't seem to be working quite right... but you can give them a call at 1-800-350-8739, and their email is [email protected]

TroyBilt 27 ton (4 1/2" cylinder) went for $1399 last winter in the big box stores and soem other outlets. Also goes by "White" and I think another name. I think I saw a report of it going for around $1100 a month or two ago. Honda engine and comes with a 'log cradle'.

Near a full year of use splitting Black Locust (about 15+ cords) shearing through knots and crotches without a refusal.

Happy Brave user

I bought the Brave HD 24 ton (now rated 26 ton)

with the 8hp B&S over a decade ago from Lowe's and have been amazed at what it will split without complaint. Oak crotches, no problem. 18-20 inch rounds-usually gets 'em first time without repositioning. The wedge is made from some very high quality steel, it has retained a (seriously) knife-sharp edge over all these years without any attention. I have the log dislodger on mine, which is handy if a round sticks to the wedge. The whole unit is overbuilt-something easily discerned when looking at what a lot of the box stores are selling now. About six months ago, I was visiting my local HF store at lunch and happened upon a lone Subaru EX270, new in the box-for $105(!!!). It left the store with me and now has an easy life on the Brave splitter. I can highly recommend these splitters.

I second the Troy Bilt 27 ton. Had it two years now with no problems. (Split approximately 15 cord) Sells in most places for $1399.00 They also have a 33 ton model that is right in your $1500.00 range as well.

What I don't like about most if not all of the box store splitters is that the axle/wheel is right in the work area. If they turned the beam around and put the foot plate at the front, and slid the tank/engine assembly back under the rear part of the cylinder, the work area would be free. It just wouldn't go vertical anymore.

Speeco 25 ton, H/V, it'll be over 150 cords this season. No performance issues what so ever.

For $1K its hard to beat.

Enough power to cut through what it doesn't split apart.

That doesn't make sense. The 27 ton model for $1,399 and the 33 ton for about $1,500? Who would ever buy the 27 ton at that price comparison?

I think the 33 ton goes for quite a bit more typically. It has the Honda GX series commercial motor.

That is also my complaint but one has to live with it (or rebuild it to make it horizontal only. IMO the wedge on ram bit sucks for more than one reason.
