My cub cadet is offset to the exhaust side was curious if they changed much when they went bigger. I checked comp. on my cs81 today its at 165psi after 3 tanks.

mtngun, your welcome for the pics. I should have did some test cuts before and after I had cut the pipe too see if it made a difference.

If a fella really wanted to get at the innards of these mufflers, he could cut it in half (front and rear halves), gut it, and then weld it back together. I don't own a welder or know how to weld. I've thought about drilling a hole on the other side of the muffler and screwing on one of those Husky deflectors, but the clearance to the plastic cover is my concern (and I don't think I'd like the way it would look).

Yep, Josh (FourPaws) knew his way around these Oly's. A good guy to talk to.

Does anyone know what happened to fourpaws he stopped posting about a year ago, i hope all is well with him.

Seems like someone said he was OK but just doing other things.

Four Paws is much missed. One of the good guys.

I remember him telling me that his 980 responded well to porting.

Did the carb kit this evening. Sorry, no pics, so I guess it didn't really happen.

Started on the muffler mod.

Port matched the muffler gasket and muffler entrance.

Removed the 5/8" ID pipe. Easier said than done.

The inner baffle does not appear to be restrictive so it stays.

Now there is a big rectangular hole where the 5/8" outlet used to be. :)

That's as far as I got tonight.

Next task is to make a deflector that will bolt on. Yes, bolt on, so a screen can be sandwiched between the deflector and muffler. That'll keep bugs and debris out and make this saw legal on public land.

I've been busy and away from AS for a few days. Do you have a pic of the muffler from the front of it?

Kevin

Just this one.

Thanks, I have that one saved (along with the others) to my computer for future reference. I should have said a front view without the cover showing the inside of the muffler.

Front view, pipe is completely gone. Deflector has been taken off for painting.

Tweaked the lighting on this pic so you could see the internal baffle. Baffle has a 3/4" hole on both sides -- that seems adequate -- so I did not remove it or modify it.

If the 980 is like other Emak saws the drilled holes in the cover allow dirt directly into the carb bypassing the filter. How long has it been run that way?
:agree2:

The airflow through the Efco is kinda complicated, you have to stare at it for a while to figure it out.

Other than the holes in the top cover, that is a well preserved 980.

For some reason, my saws usually look like they have been run hard, bounced around in the back of a pick up, and generally neglected. Can't imagine why ? :monkey:

Hopefully, I'll have an update on my 980 later tonight. The Caber rings showed up, the saw is back together, now I am troubleshooting what appears to be a flooding problem.

Hi Stihl Crazy, the saw has only been run maybe two hrs., I ran it without the filtre and filtre boot at a GTG in Ohio. I don't think it has ever seen a tree as I was the only owner.
