ms260 has more power than 346xpne... ?

ok, so I was looking at the reports at kwf-online.de...

I noticed the Stihl ms260 was tested to have 2.6 kw (3.5 hp), but the 346xp was only tested to have 2.5 kw (3.4 hp)... what's the story here? Help me out, Sawtroll!

I like the 260, BUT...

I've run both and 346 has the edge. Even my OE with 45cc has more speed and grunt

According to the test the 260 has a big advantage in torque also and makes its peak power at 9500 rpm vs 10500 for the 346. I'd think the 260 would grunt a lot better, keep in mind this is without a EPA muffler, easy to fix over here. Steve

peak numbers may say one thing but area unde the curve is where it's at. The 346 easily outcuts the ms260. I've had my ass handed to me more than once by 346's

The "max" they found on the 346xp was at way too high rpms, the carb probably was set too lean. I believe they test only one saw of each model - nothing indicates anything else.

Also, they "recycle" old test results routinely on the "same" model, so they may have used results from the old 45cc version, without testing the new one on the dyno at all.

The main focus of the tests are user safety and environment issues.

They obviously are German, and have had a close relationship to Dolmar in some settings, but not to Stihl as far as I know.......

The MS260s they have tested aren't the "power demoted" US ones, btw - but the Euro version that always were rated at 3.5hp.

Yes that 10500 rpm was fishy with most saws making peak power at 9500 with some of the high strung ones at 10000. Steve

The power you stated regarding the 346xp - but what is there still isn't as it should be.

As far as I know, the Husky power specs are not from Husky itself, but from an independant agency at national level, it is not just a number someone thought of.....

Sorry, I was a bit fast, and messed up that one, you are right - the numbers actually in there fits the old 45cc version, as I indicated earlier.

026 vs. 346

After reading all the hype on this sight I purchased a new 346 non cat this year. Initially I was disappointed in its performance against my 026 that I muffler modded. It has gotten somewhat better now after 6 tanks but it still does not have the torque of the Stihl. It does handle much better when limbing though. Thats what its made for. It seems with the Stihl you can push in the wood and with the Husky you have to feed it. My 044 and 372XP behave just like their smaller brothers. They require different techniques. At first, I did not know this, but after learning both are just as fast.

soemthing doesn't sound right with your 346. i have the same two exact saws as you and they were both MM. the 346 was significantly stronger and zippier (is that a word?).

My 346XP will out cut my 026.

Not knocking my 026 because I like it a lot, but I never push either saw.

If I have bigger wood, I break out the 372XP.

Not sure now why I have the 365. CAD I guess.

My 346 is stock and the 026 is MM both are using 18" .325 bars with RSC chain. I had a buddy try as well since he wanted to see if it was me but he found the same thing. And he was rooting for the Husky. He's found the same with My 044 and 372 as well. Both of those were using 20" .050 bars with RSC as well. I used new chain on all saws when testing. Maybe its my saws, but the Stihls can be pushed.

The Husky site I seen shows the 346 50.1cc model at 3.7 h.p.

No saw scientist here but the the 260 Pro I bought couldn't hold hold a candle to my 346. I intended to keep the 260 but after running it, sent it on down the road.
