Well for me it was an Olympyk 264 Deluxe, don't know what the Italians did (maybe Ferrari designed the muffler) to that saw but the first time I ran it I thought wow what a beauty sound for a two stoke.

Today I was running both my Sthil 026 and Ryobi / Redmax (both with conservative muffler modes) and going from one to the other the difference in sound was immediate. The 40cc Redmax has a high pitched note the is quickly annoying while the 50cc 026 has a much deeper base note and not tiring at all, not in the Olympyk league but not bad.

This isn't just a displacement issue I've had larger saws with lousy sounding exhaust notes, an early Stihl 041 and Homelite 925 come to mind.

i sure like my ms460 with the dual port muffler,it revs quick and just sounds snappy!

Tommy Fales's finger ported 475 banging the limiter while falling some punkin's.

My 372xpw.

A 1" straight pipe can't sound bad:hmm3grin2orange:

Well now I'm going to have to get a 372xp just so I can hear how it sounds.

The original Stihl 041 (non AV) that I owned briefly made a horriable racket IMO but I really like the sound of all of the 028 incarnations.

The Solo twin will only be a fantasy don't care how good it sounds.

McCulloch 125

It idles a little like a big block musclecar, loping and loading up, and when you pull the trigger it revs a lot more aggressively than you expect a big reed valve saw to react.

Do I hear three strikes? hands down it has to be a 041.Nothing sounds like a 041 percolating getting ready to chew into some wood.Ken

Haha! I can't believe somebody already mentioned the 041.

I was thinking of voting twice, once for idle and once for full throttle.

For idle, I immediately thought of the 041. Has a real nice pop-pop-pop to it.

For full throttle, I'm going with the early front runner here, the 372XP. Particularly my XT with the Weimedog Special muffler.

Honorable mention goes to my McCulloch ProMac 850. Like an old Roadrunner with duel Thrushes. :cool2:
