i live in new Milford ct if any one has free hardwood i'll take it will also cut up fallen trees for the wood thanks

Thats kinda funny cause that's all there is to burn in Alberta for heat.. Pine, spruce and poplar keeps my house at 74f all winter..

pine and spruce i was told wasnt good to burn because of the build up in chimmney. also i see how this sites gonna be. people like to put there 2cents in instead of keeping quite if they have nothing to do with the post.

No actually it's a valid point. Soft wood WILL keep your home warm.. instead of passing up on free soft wood and waiting on hard wood (which most guys sell) i figured soft wood and a warm home would be nice.. As for burning pine just keep your fire hot.. not flame throwing hot but hot. Don't dampen your fire down to a nothing..

This is a good site, better if smart azzed newbies would put threads like yours in the "Free Firewood Wanted" topic stickied at the top of the page for just this purpose.

Settle down, relax, and enjoy the information (and maybe free wood) that is here for you. Otherwise, feel free to find a different place to ask for free wood.

"Free hardwood I'll take it".... Sure, I got a tank of heating oil I'm just gonna throw out too

I lived north of you for quite a long time and burned everything, scrounged a lot too, even woods pine, pallets, factory scrap and christmas trees! Not burning lesser species is without any shadow of a doubt an east coast urban legend old wives tale, junk science, flat earth level.

Get your wood good and DRY and don't go nuts closing the damper down all the time and you'll be fine, yes, even burning pine. DRY WOOD, DRY WOOD, DRY WOOD. Don't burnh wet unseasoned wood, that's it. You will almost completely eliminate "creosote buildup" that way. Burn hot fires with dry wood. That's why it is good to be two full years ahead in your stacks. wood that sits through two full summers is dry, not half dry like most "seasoned" wood is sold.

People get their chimneys plugged up burning what they THINK is dry wood, then going nuts with the damper and choking the snot out of their heat pump engine (wood heater). I think dampers are highly over rated in maintaining wood burn efficiency. I seriously question the engineering need for a damper with modern heaters, air tight heaters with good burn tubes or baffles, etc. I don't even have one on my heater. I adjust burn by species, size and air intake. And that's with an old crappy heater, ancient junk. I have minimal to no creosote with a plain jane brick chimney.

I understand, cut for cut and hauling it home, fuel costs and time and handling, etc., why you want say just oak and rock maple, yes, this is preferable, I agree, but scrounging free stuff, really, just get wood and stack it. All wood has the same BTUs by WEIGHT. 100 lbs of dry oak heats as much as 100 lbs of dry willow. By a volume measurement, the cord, no, but by weight, all wood is the same!

Anyway, you just had a big storm up there, just go out and cruise around, you'll find wood.

I'd bet a week's pay right this second I could go up there and not only scrounge good wood, but get paid to cut it and haul it off.

You come on here, a firewood and heating forum, and want free wood? Do you realize 99.99% of us heat with wood ourselves? Many of us sell firewood too. So coming here looking for free wood is like wiping your butt before ya poop! Doesn't make any sense!

I would think you guys would be up to your ears in free wood right now!?

Just something I have noticed, some of the best info. comes from "rabbit trail" conversations that are started by people "putting their two cents in", which may or may not be precisely on your requested topic, and yet, usually relative. If not relative, usually entertaining! (there's more than a couple of us smart alecs around here!) :jester:

BTW, I agree, soft wood is GREAT wood to burn in the fall and spring heating season. I've been burning pine and poplar the last couple weeks, house is warm, and I just checked, chimney looks good. Ya just gotta make sure it's dry, just like you would with your requested hardwood.

Welcome to AS, a word of advise...don't pizz off da natives!

You sure are a piece of work.

It's like, November. You want free hardwood. You obviously don't read well to go along with your lame spelling. And apparently have selective hearing.

Have some neg rep- Doo-Shay.

You must be one self-important ####er. Guess what? You're not.

His post was a valid reply to you. You're 'won't heat a house' and 'chimney build up' are both erroneous.

More people world wide heat with soft wood because hardwood is not available. You want free wood but turn your nose up at soft wood!!

Welcome to the site, but drop the attitude. There are worlds of good information in this site, lots of help of all kinds. Just stick around and do some reading. Start with a search on 'burning pine' might help.

Hi, I am looking for some free imported beer. None of that nasty domestic stuff. I will even take it out of your refrigerator for you. Nothing below 6% alcohol 'cause it doesn't get me drunk.

Also looking for steaks. No hamburger please. I was told that hamburger can make you sick.
