So i found a used 346 XP that a neighbor is selling, and it needs a little work. I'm wondering if you guys can help me determine how much $$$ and labor would be involved to fix it.

Background info, its a 346 XP, newer edition 50cc, primer bulb, decompression button, etc.

The problem I found is when you remove the 2 nuts and cover that hold the bar on and look inside the saw with the bar removed. The plastic "frame" is busted off near the front of the saw on the clutch side. Its the plastic that the chain brake is secured in, because when you remove the side cover, the chain brake flops around loosly and wants to almost fall off. There is a steel plate on the outside of that plastic "frame" that is also chewed up pretty bad near the front. This also caused the oil tank to crack and the retard put permatex on it to seal the crack in the oil tank. It still weeps oil, and I want that piece replaced, so the saw is fixed right.

What is that plastic "frame" piece called? I looked on Baileys website, but I can't really find it. Is there a better parts diagram somewhere else? I could easily point out the broken parts if I had a parts schematic to look at.

What do you guys think the repair costs would be to fix this thing "right"? I'd buy it if he gets it fixed, or offer him super cheap price as parts saw. Suggestions?

Other than that, I looked in the spark plug hole, and the piston and cylinder look fine. The saw is dirty on the outside, and somewhat on the inside too, it will clean up easily I'm sure.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer!

On a different note, This saw had the top engine cover "screw on" instead of the common quick releases that all my other Huskys have. Should a 346XP have the quick releases, or did some screw on?
Thanks:cheers:

post some pics and then we can diagnose a little better and also pull the muffler and hace a look @ the piston all the way down, part up to show rings and all the way up should show any scoring, but its sounding like a parts doner to me.

As far as I'm aware they all had flip tops. The 350 series had screwed on top plastic. Can't really do much in the way of help without pictures.

Yup pro series, should have quick access filter/plug cover held on by two plastic clips.

If its the part below the filter cover it is called the engine shroud.

No "screw on" top cover on a 346xp, the saw simply isn't a 346xp.

Without looking at a picture it sure sounds like this saw is going to need way to much work to be worth fixing. I take it that the crankcase is busted and sawtroll is right if it doesn't have the clips to hold the top on it isn't even a 346.

Guys, looking closer, the big "plastic frame piece" is ACTUALLY METAL. Its obviously the frame.
Its the thick orange frame that actually mounts the chain brake on the clutch side. I think if the frame is busted, its a parts saw, but I'm confused on the case differences. (I will get into details on that in a few minutes).
For some crazy reason, I was thinking that piece was plastic because it was so dirty. I looked at my other 346 XP (45cc) and that piece is indeed the metal frame.

Is that replaceable, or does that basically junk the saw?

Awesome info, thanks guys!

I would run away from that saw unless it was out with the trash at the end of his driveway. Who wants any saw that has been flat out abused? If you're talking about a purchase then I would look elsewhere. Dumpster divin' , now that's a different game. DW

It's not a 346 I'd say maybe a 345 or as I said earlier something in the 350 series. Still a great series but big difference, unless someone did a conversion. It's not what you think it is. But to be sure take clutch cover off look for a black tag and it will tell you. No problem with the help man.

I'm always looking for parts saws if you get it free you're not hurt. Get pictures and you may have something I'd deal for.

What does it say on the black ID tag by the clutch? It sounds like you'll need at least a new crank case half.

Looking here

Parts and Diagrams for Husqvarna 346XP (2011-01)

Its the crankcase half thats busted for sure.

I offered him $30 for it before I left. I think I was right, its a "parts saw", but maybe not even a 346 Parts saw! lol Also, the chain guide plate that sits outside the crankcase cover was shredded.

The left side cover said 346 XP, the top cover (screw on, wtf? lol) also said 346 50cc, and the chain brake cover was all orange, not silver like i expected it to be.
The things that made me think it was a 346XP was the primer bulb, the tag on the cover, and the left side decal. Either someone is selling a parts saw or throwing parts on a different saw to try and raise price.

unfortunately, I did not know to look at the black ID tag under the clutch cover, but if I do go back and look at it, I will look at that. Thanks for the idea, I never knew there was a tag there. I'm going to look at the other 346XP I just bought to be damn sure its original! :) Its the older version, and was in great condition, I grabbed this one for $150! :blob2: I'm hoping $150 is realistic. It needed nothing more than a good cleaning, a muffler mod of course  and a tune!

I'll get pics of this one up before too long! :)

I've tried a few different locations for a new port on muffler mods but none scavenge like the one I'm currently using on my 340.

The black tag inside the cover of MY 346XP says "346XP" Then the serial number.
How do I determine the year of build from the serial number? I read that once, and I think the first 2 numbers are the year but i could be wrong. It starts out 965-41-...

Thanks again guys, you are major help! Ive searched alot, but I don't always get the answers I am looking for.
